Galaxy Nexus Verizon still lacks a release date

Galaxy Nexus arriving this week (and next week) in other countries. United States still waiting for the Verizon variant’s release date.
United States may be the last country that will get the Galaxy Nexus this year.

Multiple reports have confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime if you want), the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone, will debut in other countries this week and early next week via online retailers. But technically, United States customers can purchase the unlocked device which supports AT&T or T-Mobile, only if the buyer can can afford to shell out $781 excluding tax and shipping. Ka ching.

According to AusDroid (or Australian Android site), a local online retailer in Australia has confirmed that the first batch of Galaxy Nexus devices will arrive on the 23rd of this month, and the second batch is poised to arrive on the 29th. A retailer based in Hong Kong also confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus will arrive this week or early next week.

Meanwhile, a United Kingdom based online retailer is also promising to offer the device by December 1. Well, it looks like the phone won’t come to other countries (including the shipping time) until December. It is worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is now available in United Kingdom via in-store.

Here in USA, Verizon is expected to offer the only LTE Galaxy Nexus this year and based on Google’s product page, the US wireless carrier will exclusively offer the device this year, and it is highly possible that other carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile are poised to follow suit. In fact, AT&T has posted an entry in Google+ asking its customers if they want the mobile carrier to subsidize the phone. AT&T deleted the post after few hours.

Rumors say the Verizon Wireless Galaxy Nexus will arrive this month according to the statement made by Google’s Matias Duarte. However, a leaked document posted last week is suggesting that the phone’s release date is on December 8. Either way, Google is obviously ready to support (and to promote) the Galaxy Nexus based on its new releases to enhance its own smartphone ecosystem like the Google Music and the new Android.com.

For starters, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and the carrier’s data network will offer the fastest speeds compared to the UK or Australian version which supports HSPA+ or the traditional “4G.” Are you willing to wait just to get the fastest data speed? Well, that’s not the only factor that a customer must consider. The non-US Galaxy Nexus variant is expensive, or should I say, very expensive because it is not subsidized by a carrier. Carriers are more than willing to cut the price of a phone just to get more customers locked in contract.

Verizon Wireless is currently selling two new high-end LTE devices, the Droid Razr and the HTC Rezound. The Droid Razr is the thinnest LTE Android smartphone to date, while the HTC Rezound is the first smartphone from the Taiwan-based company to feature the top of the line 720p HD touchscreen. Apparently, both devices are expected to receive the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system upgrade early next year.
