A Digital Take on a Classic Kids Game

When I was a kid I distinctly remember having a game that had a row of "Jack in the boxes" each with a different switch that released the hidden shape or animal to pop up through the trap door. Each of the switches was different. One would be a round button that you pushed, one would be a toggle switch that you flipped, one would be a nut that you turned, etc. My twins even had a variation of this when they were 2 or so and they're only 5. Now we have it on the iPad but only better! Kids Place brings you Peekaboo Pets, an interactive learning tool designed to teach kids animal names, sound and picture correlation.

Just like the traditional game, each animal has a different button that requires a different movement. This does two things. First, it keeps things different for the kids so they don't get bored, and second, it helps with fine motor skills. Whether it's a switch or a button, the movement is never too difficult.

Once the animal is released from the trap door, the sound that it makes is played through the speaker or headphones. Touching the picture below the animal plays the sound again, and if you're kids are like mine, it will play it again, and again, and again… Touching the name of the animal below the switch plays the animal's name. This is my only complaint about the App. It sounds like the narrator sounds to be from England which, makes some of the pronunciations a little "different" than what we are used to.

The Bottom Line
This is a simple App. Sometimes however, the simple Apps are the most effective. This is one of those Apps. It's so simple that it is really, really effective in teaching animal names, pictures, and sounds to toddlers. If you have a toddler, it's a definite must have. This is a universal binary meaning that it will work on both the iPhone and iPad. The layout is exactly the same and I wrote this review kind of late so I didn't have any screen shots to show you.

You can get Peekaboo Pets for the iPad and iPhone from the iTunes store for $1.99 here:

Galaxy Nexus vs Samsung Galaxy S2: Specs and features

Can the Samsung Galaxy S2 compete against the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich phone?

The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2, according to Samsung, is their biggest selling smartphone to date. In fact, it is also the smartphone considered (then) by many as the biggest smartphone that can compete against the iPhone 4S, Apple’s new smartphone.
But after the announcement of the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus on Wednesday, many believe that the Android ICS 4.0 alone can compete against’s Apple.
Can the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus steal the crown as this year’s “Best Android device?” Or the top-of-the-line is still owned the Samsung Galaxy S

Processor
One of the best features of the Samsung Galaxy S II (except for the T-Mobile variant), is its Exynos dual-core 1.2GHz processor, but the Galaxy Nexus apparently is a “screamer” too with its own 1.2GHz Texas Instruments dual-core processor.
The overall performance of both smartphones also depend on the operating system, Galaxy S2′s Android Gingerbread and Galaxy Nexus’ Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Technically, the Android ICS is “much better,” even without the custom user interface. Aside from the operating system’s more intuitive UI or user interface, the new Android version is also “more polished.” In fact, it is safe to say that ICS is the most beautiful Android version ever, especially the native web browser and the People App (or the new Contacts App built-in).

Screen Beauty
Except for the Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA variants (with 4.65-inch screen), the Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 sports a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with resolution of 480 x 800, 217 ppi pixel density. Meanwhile, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is “technically” better when it comes to screen because it features 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen with 316 ppi, close to Apple’s iPhone 4/4S’s 326 ppi, and with resolution of 1280 x 720 or the so-called 720p.
But the large 4.65-inch screen is a love/hate feature, especially if you have small hands. The Samsung Galaxy S2, according to our specs sheet, is thinner than the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus, but by at least 0.4mm only.
It is worth noting that the Galaxy Nexus screen sports the “contour” display, similar to the 2010 Nexus S released last year.

Cameras
The Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is a phone that features “better cameras” than other Android handsets out there because of the zero shutter lag feature, and the built-in photo and video editing tools courtesy of the Android 4.0. However, the primary camera of the Galaxy Nexus is 5MP only, some say technically lower than the Samsung Galaxy S II or S2′s 8-megapixel camera.
According to an article posted by Digital Photo Secrets regarding “megapixels,” one of the best features of a camera with higher megapixels is “cropping” or cutting an area of a photograph. Apparently, more megapixels result to better quality after cropping an image.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 also features “better” front-facing camera with 2MP, versus the 1.3MP camera of the Galaxy Nexus. The front-facing camera is for video chatting, or SelCa or “Self Camera,” or a mirror while combing for some.

Others
No word yet on the standby or talk time battery performance for the Galaxy Nexus, but according to reports, the new Nexus phone will include 1750 mAh battery. The original Samsung Galaxy S II (global) features 1650 mAh batter.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus also supports NFC out of the box, while some Galaxy S2 variants have, but not activated like the AT&T and T-Mobile versions. The Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is also expected to include Google Wallet feature, that will allow users to wave and pay virtual and physical goods by using Citi Mastercard credit card, or Google’s Prepaid card for other credit card holders.
Both the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus feature 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi a/b/g/n and GSM 850 /900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 support. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is available in United States via Sprint for CDMA, and AT&T and T-Mobile for the GSM versions. The Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is reportedly a Verizon Wireless exclusive device in United States with the Long Term Evolution data technology, and other versions that will arrive outside US will support GSM.

Sony Tablet S gets Playstation Store access

Finally! Something to put the S’s Tegra 2 chip to the test — not that these games require that much ‘oomph’.
Sony has just announced that the official PS store is now available, the online store that will deliver exclusive content to Sony’s Android-based PlayStation Certified devices which currently includes the Xperia Play smartphone, Tablet S and the dual-screen P tablet which will be released this coming November.

The Sony PlayStation store has about ten popular “Playstation One” game titles available for download upon today’s launch, with more game titles to follow, the list includes Cool Boarders, Destruction Derby, Hot Shots Golf 2, Jet Moto, Jet Moto 2, Jumping Flash, Motor Toon Grand Prix, Rally Cross, Wild Arms, and the highly popular MediEvil.
Tablet S owners will receive a notification on their device to let them know that the PS store is available in their area, from there on they simply have to follow the on-screen directions on how to download the PS Store App, upon installation, they can start downloading PS games for the Sony Tablet S. Sony has also stated in their blog that the PS store is currently available in nine countries which includes the U.S. and Canada, they’re also in the works with game developers to expand their software library for Android-based PlayStation devices.
Now, let’s all hope that Sony and Capcom are also in talks to release the classic Parasite Eve and Resident Evil series, that’s more than enough reason for me to save up for a Tablet S.

Samsung galaxy S2 vs iPhone 4S
Comparison between iphone 4s and Samsung galaxy s2

The battle between the Samsung and apple takes a new shape with the launch of iPhone 4s, which entered the market of smartphones to outbreak the competition which its prior version faced from galaxy s2. Though the launch came as a flash in the pan ,letting down the hopes of many from iPhone5 , iPhone 4s made an entry with all the features on par with galaxy s2.

There are certain specs in Phone 4S which would force an individual to rethink about the new smartphone creating waves in the news. However, the comparison will not lead to any valuable conclusion as both have their own set of strengths and weakness and the choice is purely left at the discretion of an individual.

Let’s have insight into the detailed comparison between Samsung galaxy s2 and iPhone 4s , which would make your choice easy.

Dimensions:

Samsung galaxy s2 continues to be slimmer, thinner and wider smartphone with dimensions 126 X 66 X 8.9 m while iPhone 4s is little on heavier side which weighs 4.902 g as compared to Samsung galaxy with 4.302 g.

The wider screen of galaxy gives you full feasibility to move across your fingers with ease across the apps and widgets and gives you the maximum experience of viewing gallery and videos.

Operating system:

Galaxy s2 runs on android 2.3 ginger bread whch do give user considerable amount of computing power but the apps are clustered which makes the navigation of apps  a tough deal.iPhone 4s on the other hand supports iOS 5 with A5 dual core processor  which gives you amazing speed to control the apps and for your ease the apps are arranged in grid of 12 across multiple screen making it better organized.

Visual display:

Galaxys2 incorporates super Amoled technology to give you rich viewing experience with its superior vivid colors , contrast and brightness which in turn saves the power consumption and increase the battery life. The retina display of iPhone 4s on the other hand would drive you crazy with high pixel density that would make the images look more crystal clear and sharp. The high resolution display makes the images look so smooth as in real life.

Camera:

The Samsung galaxy s2packs 8 mp camera with supporting flash lights to add life in to the dull images and give you the impressive result .The front camera with 2 mp takes care of your video chat.

The 8 mp camera for iphone 4s and five elements of f/2.4 lens lets to take snaps beyond your imagination. The incredible sharpness makes your picture look more real. However, the absence of flash lights may come up as a matter of concern.

App store:

For any apps to be downloaded on iphone 4s, app store is the only source with registered itunes account which may sometimes limit your access to apps only from a sole manufacturer. Android smartphone on the other hand gives to some more feasibility in downloading apps from multiple stores like Samsung media hub, android market and amazon app store for android which would give you choice of millions apps in the world.

Near field communication:

To the surprise of many, the most anticipated feature NFC chip was found missing on iPhone 4s , which has proved as a point of credit  to Samsung galaxy s2. The users of the Samsung galaxy s2 are privileged to use the e-wallet for wireless transactions with in short range replacing the use of the credit/debit cards. The gift coupons or cards can be redeemed without having to present the actual card.

Apple however confirms that it is solely because of security reasons that such feature was not included in iPhone 4S.

Voice command:

IPhone 4s takes over the other smartphones with the inclusion of voice recognition software called SIRI which would let the phone perform tasks for you at the command of your voice. you can activate the phone functions, send text mails, set reminders and check weather without actually touching the phone.

While galaxy s2 includes voice activation service VINGO to perform various tasks on voice command like reading messages, texts, playing video and operating apps.

Connectivity:

Connectivity is where iphone 4s does not stand itself up to the mark. The Galaxy S II HSPA+ network speeds are at least 50% faster with AT&T 21 MBPS and three times faster with T-Mobile’s 42 MBPS than the iPhone 4S’s 14 MBPS HSPA network.

Open Ecosystem :–

iPhone users have to look upon app store every time , to download music files or use cloud services. Samsung galaxy II however gives its users a wide access to music servces from multiple stores like amazon , google music and multiple video chat clients. manufacturer’s storefront or app store.

Flash:

Samsung galaxy s II enriches your web experience by supporting flash content which stands as a big advantage against iPhone 4S. you can play adobe based HD video inside adobe flash player  which is found missing in any current device.

Though the above features could give a clear picture about the standing features for each smarphone, android based galaxy II  was best in some points , on the other hand iPhone 4s proved to be better option for some of its features .As mentioned earlier both have their own set of weakness and strengths. Let us get a short view on merits for both the smartphones.

iPHONE 4S:

1)   iMessage

2)   cloud sync

3)   wireless sync

4)   twitter integration and widgets

5)   memory upto 64 GB

Samsung galaxy s 2:

1)   HDTV remote control

2)   External storage

3)   Removable battery

4)   High virus patching capacity

5)   4G specs and Wi-Fi tethering

Currently Samsung galaxy s II continues to stand as a strong contender to iPhone 4S for some of its significant features which apple failed to include in its recent smarphone. Let’s see if iPhone 5 could give a competing market to Samsung.

Google Music (Beta) vs Apple’s iTunes?

Looks like Google’s adding some finishing touches to their ‘rumored’ online digital store.
There’s no doubt that Google’s product portfolio is immense, there’s social networking, internet search, operating systems, consumer software, maps, web browsers, hardware, advertising… and the list goes on. The only thing that’s missing in Google’s product portfolio is an online music download store, Google Music Beta is there to fill in for the most part but it doesn’t let you purchase/download MP3′s, it just lets you listen to over 20,000 tracks online — for now that is.

There have been multiple reports claiming that Google will be launching a music download service within the next few weeks but Google’s yet to confirm what they’re hiding up their sleeves. According to Engadget, AsiaD’s Senior Vice President Andy Rubin has made it quite clear that Google is indeed “very close” to introducing a digital download store that’ll include “a little twist.”, “It won’t just be buying songs for 99 cents”.
Also, some reports are claiming that this new online store from Google is directly linked to the seemingly bland Music Beta service that Google is currently pushing through, which comes to no surprise since it was their first step in venturing the online music business in the first place.
It’s worth noting that Google has already encountered problems with numerous recording labels and music publishers in the past (during the launch of the Music Beta), simply because they weren’t happy with Google’s previously proposed locker-type storage service which rendered the Music Beta service ‘lacking’  since the day of its launch, they’re also yet to obtain music licensing agreements with the record companies music publishers alike. Google has also been previously hit by a multi-million dollar lawsuit with Bedrock Computer Technologies as well as Apple (Indirectly) — both cases are related to patent infringement, so naturally, they no longer want to go through the same problems again.
Numerous reports are also stating that Google will be introducing their new digital download service to the public ahead of the Apple iTunes Match launch which, will be held by the end of this month. Will Google be able to successfully execute the service this time? How will Apple react to Google’s new offering? We’re yet to find out.

Galaxy Nexus (Nexus Prime) specs, features revealed

Google and Samsung finally unveil the new Galaxy Nexus, the phone formerly called as Nexus Prime.
Can the Galaxy Nexus compete against the iPhone 4S?

After weeks of waiting, Google and Samsung finally unveiled the brand new Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus, the 2011 Nexus device that will launch the brand new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
For starters, the new Galaxy Nexus is the first and possibly the only device that will include a stock Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, unless mobile manufacturers like HTC, Motorola, LG, etc are going to manufacture their own pure Android ICS handset or tablet.
Here are the features of the Galaxy Nexus that you need to know.

Long Term Evolution or HSPA+
The new Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is the first LTE Android 4.0 device, and also capable of delivering HSPA+ speed depending on services available in your region. For example, Verizon Wireless will offer the LTE Galaxy Nexus in United States with actual speed of up to 15Mbps download and 5 to 7 Mbps upload — the speed according to our own test, and will still depend on your area, or actual use.
Outside USA, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is capable of connecting to the internet via HSPA+, and it is worth noting that this mobile technology is more common in Europe and Asia. Galaxy Nexus specs page claims the phone has a theoretical download speed of 21Mbps download.
No word yet on AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint variants of the Galaxy Nexus, but the specs sheet claims the new smartphone supports 850/900/1700/1900/2100 3G bands.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and fast OS update
Possibly the best feature of a Nexus device is its operating system support, and Galaxy Nexus is the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone. Apparently, Galaxy Nexus will get the latest and greatest features of Android faster than other devices.
Unlike previous Nexus devices like the Nexus S and the Nexus One, the Galaxy Nexus includes top of the line features and Ice Cream Sandwich is arguably the best-looking Android OS update ever when it comes to user interface design and out of the box features.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Android 4.0 alone is a beautiful operating system that doesn’t need “custom UIs” like HTC Sense, Motorola’s skin formerly called “MotoBlur” or even Samsung’s TouchWiz.

5 Megapixel Primary Camera and 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera
Rumors are true, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is equipped with 5-megapixel optimized camera with zero shutter lag. Google and Samsung demonstrated the camera during the Galaxy Nexus event, and it is obviously the fastest in the market now. The phone can also shoot 1080p video.
Google’s new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system also features new camera application with own panorama support, and built-in photo and video editing applications. The front-facing camera supports video calling or the new feature of Android 4.0 called Face detection.

People Application
Google said during the event that the new Android 4.0 focuses on design and people, and the new People App is one of the highlights of the redesign. The People application features “Contacts Card,” where user can store all information about his friend/s like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Google+. Google said developers can get access to the People App’s API so third-party social networking or other apps can take advantage of the new feature too.

Super AMOLED HD screen
A large Super AMOLED HD screen is one of the best features of the new Galaxy Nexus. A stunning 4.65-inch screen with the resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, or 316ppi. For starters, the Galaxy Nexus can obviously compete against the iPhone 4S when it comes to screen resolution because the iPhone 4/iPhone 4S’s “Retina” screen feature 326ppi on a 3.5-inch screen, a very close competition, but Galaxy Nexus features a larger screen size, which is better for web browsing and watching videos.
Samsung also implemented the “thin bezel” style increase the phone’s screen size and maintaining the portability of the device.
Apparently, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus will be the first true HD sAMOLED-equipped phone to arrive in United States.

First impression
The Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is obviously the first and true big smartphone that can compete against Apple’s new iPhone 4S, it also shows that Android is not just about power, but also about beauty.
Windows Phone is also in big trouble because the Android 4.0 is obviously a big redesign that seriously challenges Microsoft’s “Metro” user interface. Apparently, Android is more powerful than Windows Phone when it comes to core features like Notification, Web Browsing and Multitasking.

Galaxy Nexus Verizon LTE leaked, release date rumors

Quite odd and very exciting — Verizon Wireless will be the first US wireless carrier to unleash the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich phone,

the Galaxy Nexus.

The nation’s largest wireless carrier will get the first taste of the brand new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system courtesy of Samsung’s new Google Galaxy Nexus.
Apparently, Verizon Wireless skipped the Samsung Galaxy S II, obviously due to the company’s decision to offer the “better” smartphone. Galaxy Nexus, specs wise, competes against the Samsung Galaxy S II, and if you love Android, we think the Galaxy Nexus is a better device.

Image from Google leaks Verizon 4G LTE branding printed on the new Galaxy Nexus. The device is expected to hit the US stores next month with Verizon's Long Term Evolution data technology.
During the Galaxy Nexus presentation in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Google unveiled a video presentation to show-off the “beauty” and add-on features of the 5-megapixel camera equipped in the Galaxy Nexus and the built-in camera app of the Android 4.0, and “accidentally,” the video confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus is a Verizon Wireless smartphone with the “4G LTE” logo.
For starters LTE is the new “4G” technology offered by Verizon Wireless and AT&T (in some areas). LTE or Long Term Evolution is theoretically faster than the conventional 3G technology like HSPA+.
The new Galaxy Nexus smartphone will arrive in November according to Samsung, and rumors say the device will hit the Verizon Wireless smartphone lineup on November 10. No word yet regarding the price tag with the 2-year contract, or the full retail price of the Galaxy Nexus, but it is safe to speculate that the device will sport the premium tag price of $299 on contract and at least $549 full retail price.
Can the Galaxy Nexus compete against other LTE Android devices, or Apple’s new iPhone 4S? Within the LTE Android market, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus will get a slightly serious rival coming from Motorola Mobility’s camp, the now-popular Motorola Droid Razr, the Android Gingerbread device that will get the Ice Cream Sandwich OS update next year. According to Moto, the Droid Razr’s OS will be updated to Android 4.0 from 2.3.5 “early next year.”
Let’s recap the specs of the Galaxy Nexus, the new phone is powered by 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD screen with 316ppi (for starters, the iPhone 4S flaunts 326ppi), 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel primary camera, front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
Meanwhile, the Droid Razr is theoretically the winner when it comes to camera because it features 8-megapixel back camera and “HD” front-facing camera. The Droid Razr also features 1.2GHz dual-core TI processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen with 256ppi and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 out of the box. It is worth noting that Android 4.0 is better than Gingerbread not only because it is the latest Android build, because the Android 4.0 features a more elegant user interface and additional features out of the box.

Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus) vs Motorola Droid Razr?

Droid Razr to get Android Ice Cream Sandwich next year

Motorola Droid Razr’s biggest letdown is its operating system, but Motorola said owners will bite the Android Ice Cream Sandwich next year.

Samsung’s Google Galaxy Nexus will enjoy “only months” of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich exclusivity, because Motorola confirms that the new, and surprisingly beautiful Android operating system upgrade will also hit the Motorola Droid Razr next year.
According to Pocket Lint’s article posted on Wednesday, Motorola confirms, or let’s just say, promises ICS upgrade for the Droid Razr, or Motorola Razr (name outside United States) most probably at the beginning of 2012. Apparently, no word on the exact release of the OS upgrade, but it is safe to speculate that the Motorola Razr will get the Android 4.0 by Q1 of 2012.

Motorola Droid Razr was announced in United States on Tuesday, just hours ahead of the Google Galaxy Nexus unveiling in Hong Kong (10PM NY time). The Droid Razr is arguably the best Motorola phone ever, because the phone is possibly the thinnest Android so far, only 7.1 mm thick (compared to 8.5-8.8mm thickness of Samsung Galaxy S II global), and also the best-looking Motorola phone ever, in my opinion, with the Kevlar back cover and Corning Gorilla Glass screen coating.
Motorola Droid Razr will include Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 with the custom Motorola user interface. For starters, Gingerbread 2.3.5 is a powerful operating system, it supports better notification, better battery management, support for third-party and native Google apps including the Google Talk with Video, and it also supports Google+ Hangouts on mobile, but Android Ice Cream Sandwich is “much” better, especially when it comes to design and overall “Android features.”
Android 4.0 ICS obviously doesn’t need HTC Sense, TouchWiz or even MotoBlur because it is more polished and faster than these custom skins. Android’s ICS upgrade starts on the lock screen, with the quick notification access and slide to unlock to access camera application or the home screen. The Android ICS also supports “Face Unlock” — a feature that a user can use to unlock the device by using his/her face, scary but obviously a very exciting feature.
Google’s new Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade also features better contacts, more polished application and widget management and the much-anticipated Chrome-like web browser with desktop bookmark syncing and tab browsing presented in a more intuitive way. Google also claims that the ICS supports better on-screen keyboard for quick multi-touch typing.
Kudos to Motorola for committing earlier than rivals, but here are some of the questions now left unanswered like the “version” of the Android ICS that the Motorola Droid Razr will get, and if Motorola will implement the company’s own “skin” running on top of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich’s beautiful user interface.
Just a quick recap, the new Motorola (Droid) Razr is a Long Term Evolution device (depending on region) with 1.2GHz dual-core TI SoC (System on a Chip), 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD screen with 256ppi resolution, Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 with custom Motorola skin, a full 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel back camera, a front-facing “HD” camera, and the Kevlar/Gorilla Glass case that is obviously sturdy. Motorola is also offering optional accessories for the Droid Razr like the Lapdock and the HD dock.
The Motorola Droid Razr will arrive in USA via Verizon Wireless, Rogers in Canada, and Motorola said other countries will get the device as the Motorola Razr with HSPA+ data technology. For starters HSPA+ is theoretically faster than other 3G data technologies. According to the Motorola Razr’s specs page, the phone supports 14.4Mbps theoretical download speed. The actual speed still depends on your wireless carrier, of course.

New “Moto Razr” leaked ahead of iPhone 5 release date

Home > Gadgets & Mobile News > Android > iOS 5 vs Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 iOS 5 vs Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0

Surprisingly, iOS 5 is the underdog. Google to roll out the most advanced Android OS upgrade yet, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Ask Google or Apple, and both companies will tell you that the operating system is the heart and soul of a smartphone or tablet, and apparently the top feature of a smartphone. Android and Apple’s iOS are considered as the biggest players in the smartphone operating system market today, based on market share and overall functionality, but the advantages and disadvantages of both platforms are obvious.
Before we talk about Galaxy Nexus vs iPhone 4S, we should first note the Android 4.0 versus iOS 5. Surprisingly, Android’s 4.0 is the most aggressive upgrade yet that will surely compete against Apple’s iOS 5.

Notification System
One of the best new features of the iOS 5, and Apple claims the new notification system of the iOS 5, used by iPhone 4S and other compatible Apple devices, features a compelling new notification system that can deliver “less intrusive” updates like e-mail, Facebook notification, Twitter, etc.
Apple tweaked the operating system’s lock screen, home screen to notification updates while running an application. Similar to Android, an iOS 5-powered device user can also get access to the notification list by swiping the screen’s notification bar down, and can tap to read, or dismiss a notification. A user can also adjust the notification/s from a certain Apple or third-party app by opting in via the settings.
Meanwhile, Google has update the Android’s notification system, and with the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a Galaxy Nexus user (and future Android devices with Android 4.0) can get access to the notification list on lock screen, home screen or while running an application. To get the notification list, the user can swipe from the notification bar down, and can now dismiss by swiping or flick (left or right) or read notification by tapping.
Google’s Matias Duarte explained, “from the beginning, Android has been designed to put you in control. In Ice Cream Sandwich, notifications are better than ever.” Duarte added, “in Ice Cream Sandwich, we’re also introducing a music player control in notification, so you can pause or skip tracks without ever leaving an application just by pulling down the notification.”
Google is also the company behind Gmail, so the notification for the e-mail service is theoretically better with ICS than other Android versions and iOS.

Built-in Camera application.
Android and Apple have implemented better built-in camera application. With iOS 5, Apple has implemented a better, built-in editing tools like red-eye reduction, touch to focus, camera shutter support (volume up button), cropping, flip, and photo enhancements.
Google’s Android is also introducing a built-in photo editing application for the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. According to Google, Galaxy Nexus can apply filters, crop, flip and refocus a photo without losing the original photo. Google also showed the more flexible way of sharing a photo to social networking sites by clicking share. With iOS 5, the photo sharing within the photo application is limited (but supports e-mail or Twitter), and the user will need to open the social network’s application to upload a photo or video. One of the best examples is Facebook.

Messaging
Google said the new messaging app of Ice Cream Sandwich is enhanced, now with better on-screen keyboard, and easy access to the contact’s other details with the “People app.” A user can save all the information of a contact like Linkedin, Twitter, Google+ and other supported social networking sites and e-mail services (including Gmail). Google said the list of supported services will grow because they will open the People App’s API. Android’s ICS operating system also includes better voice to text support.
Meanwhile, iOS 5 features the new iMessage application, the BBM-like messaging application exclusive for iOS 5 devices. Apple also included Siri in the messaging application for dictation to text support.

Find my Friends vs Face Unlock
Two new features, Apple’s Find my Friends and Android’s Face Unlock. Apple, during the iPhone 4S event, unveiled the new location-based service called Find My Friends application. Apparently, Find My Friends is the GPS-dependent service that a user can use if she/he wants to locate a friend or family.
iOS 5 users can send a request to friends/family with iOS 5-equipped device to find their location. Once the friend accepts the request, the requestor can see that friend’s location on either a map or a list.
Meanwhile, Android also introduces a new feature called “Face Unlock,” and with this feature, a user can lock or unlock the Galaxy Nexus by using his/her face. Google said in the Galaxy Nexus product page, “No complicated passwords to remember, just switch on your phone and look into the camera to quickly unlock your phone.”

Cloudy
iOS 5 and Android Ice Cream Sandwich both support cloud storage and syncing. With the Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a user can shoot, save and send instantly. Google used the Google+ as an example, saying that Google+ features “Instant Upload” service that uploads a photo instantly to the cloud.
Meanwhile, iOS 5 supports iCloud, Apple’s new cloud-based syncing and apps access. With iCloud, users can now sync all his/her devices like iTunes music, photos, videos, contacts, calendars, documents like “Pages,” and more. It is worth noting that Android also supports photo syncing with Picasa and Google+ and Music (mp3) syncing with the Google Music Beta application and PC access via browser.

iOS 5 or Android Ice Cream Sandwich
Still depends on personal preference, if you love Apple, buy the iPhone 4S or for Android fans, go with Galaxy Nexus just because the phone gets the latest operating system updates first than other Android devices.

iOS 5 vs Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0

iOS 5 vs Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0
Surprisingly, iOS 5 is the underdog. Google to roll out the most advanced Android OS upgrade yet, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich.   Ask Google or Apple, and both companies will tell you that the operating system is the heart and soul of a smartphone or tablet, and apparently the top feature of a smartphone. iTunes Movie Trailers

The Movie Trailers feature of Apple TV has been a long time favorite of mine. When friends come over we sometimes kill a little time just watching trailers and discussing upcoming movies. Before Apple TV you could also do this via the Apple QuickTime website. There are lots of ways to watch movie trailers, but one thing Apple has done well with this is the user interface and high quality nature of the trailers themselves with many streaming in HD. I always liked the Movie Poster way of seeing which trailers were available as well as doing searches. Apple has now brought this experience to iOS.

iTunes Movie Trailers on your iDevice
As you would expect Apple has done a good job with this App in that it looks very much like the Apple TV experience. You can scroll through the movie posters or do searches. Once you tap on a trailer you can choose to play it or in many cases see still photos in a gallery. Surprisingly the photos can be saved to your camera roll, tweeted or emailed. Beyond looking at trailers and stills the app goes further by giving you a calendar of movies that are about to hit theaters as well as what's already in theaters. You can save favorites of trailers and theaters.

This App just about does it all (almost). I'm not quite ready to give up Flixster just yet. There is no movie rating feature in Apple's App. While you can see Rotten Tomato ratings, you can't rate it yourself and share those ratings with friends. Also there is no way to buy movie tickets from within the App. I would very much like this to be the only App I need, but until Apple adds a couple more features I'll still need to keep at least one of my others. Other than that, iTunes Movie Trailers is a great App and there is no reason not to have it!

500px for iPad Has Arrived!

If you're a photographer and you're online you've probably heard about the new photo sharing/social media service 500px. It's touted as the new photo sharing site for professionals and I have to agree. I've been using 500px for a few months now and I have to tell you that I'm hooked. Not only is the quality of the photography better than sites like Flickr and Image bucket, but there is constantly a fresh supply of quality photos on every genre which keeps me inspired. My buddy Scott Kelby did a write up on the site, and how it works a month or so ago which you can find here. I'm not going to repeat Scott's write up and explain how the super advance algorithm keeps the photos fresh and of good quality but if you're interested you should head over and read how it works, it's worth the click. The initial iPad App offering from 500px is a really good one, albeit lacking a few key features that I would like to see added. If you're not already on 500px you can go here to sign up for a free account. Once you do, don't forget to see some of my stuff and follow me here.

This App is made for Viewing
The first thing that you notice when you launch the 500px App is the beautiful way it handles viewing photos from the 500px site. The App presents a beautiful grid layout of the "popular images" (which is selected by default).  Other sections to view include Editors picks (these are the images that the editors have chosen as favorites), Upcoming images (this is pretty self explanatory, these are the images that are moving up in the rankings quickly), Fresh images (these are images that have recently been uploaded), You (these are your images, Friends (again, self explanatory these are your friends images), and favorites (your favorite images).  Each of these sections brings up the images contained within in a grid view both horizontally or vertically (depending on iPad orientation). Double tapping an image brings it full sized on the screen. It also brings up the photographer's name, the image title, and it's rating. It also brings up the number of views, votes, and faves. Also on the full screen view is the ability to favorite, to vote for, and to leave comments on the image.

Slideshow
From the full screen view of any image in any section within the 500px App lies the ability to play a slideshow of every image contained within that collection. You can choose the transition type between images, the slide duration, as well as music for the slideshow.

Sharing
There are 5 options for sharing images from the 500px App. Natively it supports Twitter, Facebook, Tumbler, and email. The 500px App also allows you to open an image in Safari which in turn allows you to copy the direct link to the photo for use anywhere.

What I'd like to see
Just like any App, there are things that need to be improved upon. 500px is a photo sharing website, however the option to upload images directly from your iPad is curiously missing. This App is designed for image viewing only. The only thing I can guess is that they are trying to restrict the images to better quality and they feel that to keep that quality they need to restrict people to uploading images from their computer instead of their mobile device. I don't know that for sure, but it's just my guess. Hopefully one of their developers will read this review and fill us in on the thought process in the comment section. The other glaring omission that I see in this App is the ability to see the profile of your friend's or all other user's profiles for that matter. On the site each member is given room to tell about themselves, where they're from, what gear they use etc. No where on this App is there the ability to see those things. I would venture to say that it will be added in future updates since this is the first version, but only time will tell.

The Bottom Line
If you love 500px as much as I do, then you have to get this App for your iPad. The ability to view your images on the go, on what many consider to be the best image viewing device in the world makes it well worth the 30 seconds that it takes to download, and the small amount of space that it occupies on your iPad.

Nexus Prime vs Motorola (Droid) Razr vs iPhone 4S

Nexus Prime not hitting the stage yet, but Motorola Razr is challenging the iPhone 4S already?
Nexus Prime vs (Droid) Razr was one of the articles I posted last week, but sadly the new Motorola Razr with Android operating system is a bit of a disappointment because the device features Gingerbread and not Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest operating system that will hit the stage tonight (local time, New York City 10PM).

According to Motorola Mobility, the new Motorola Razr, without the Droid branding outside US, is powered by Android Gingerbread 2.3.5, obviously the latest version of Android for smartphones but only until tonight. However, there’s a possibility that Motorola will update the new Razr phone’s operating system, earlier than possible because the device features the TI OMAP 1.2GHz dual-core processor, the rumored same SoC used by the Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus).
Motorola said the new Droid Razr with Android operating system is a very sturdy smartphone, packed with Corning Gorilla Glass and Kevlar fiber. Motorola explains that the Droid Razr features “water repellent nanocoating that protects the the phone, and even the inside components, against everyday spills.” However, the Motorola Droid Razr’s battery is non-removable.
The Droid Razr is arguably the thinnest Motorola Android smartphone yet, only 7.1mm thin, surprisingly thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S II and the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. The Motorola (Droid) Razr is also the first Moto device to feature Super AMOLED 4.3-inch qHD screen (resolution of 540 x 960).
Motorola is also claiming that the new Moto Droid Razr can shoot better photos and videos with the device’s built-in “image stabilization technology.” The phone is equipped with an 8-megapixel primary camera and a front-facing HD 720p camera. The new Motorola Droid Razr technically supports Google Talk with video, Skype and the new Google+ hangouts on mobile feature.
Verizon Wireless is the exclusive wireless carrier of the new Motorola Droid Razr, and I should also point out that Verizon Wireless is also the rumored exclusive carrier of the Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus) this year. And of course, Verizon Wireless is also selling the iPhone 4S, Apple’s latest and greatest smartphone ever. Verizon getting all the love? Well, maybe. The Motorola Razr will arrive in Canada via Rogers.
The Droid Razr is an LTE or Long Term Evolution phone, capable of delivering faster data downloads and uploads speed. Other features of the device is 16GB of built-in storage, and 16GB of pre-installed MicroSD card slot. The Droid Razr is also compatible with Motorola’s optional accessories like the LapDock and HD dock.
Can the Droid Razr compete against the iPhone 4S? Well, according to Moto, the Droid Razr is their most beautiful phone ever, saying that the Droid Razr is “a true marvel of design, packs strength and smarts into a stylish package, and it is the “thinnest and lightest LTE Android smartphone yet.” Just a quick recap, the iPhone 4S is powered by the dual-core 800MHz A5 chip, iOS 5 pre-installed, 8-megapixel camera and the same iPhone 4 design. The iPhone 4S became a “hot device” due to the phone’s new voice command feature called “Siri.”
Aside from the iPhone 4S, the new Motorola Droid Razr is also facing a serious rival, the Nexus Prime, or Galaxy Nexus — the 2011 Nexus phone that will include the latest version of the Android operating system (for smartphones and tablets), the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The device will be announced today, 10PM ET, 7PM PT.

iPhone 5 and iPad 3 SoC by Samsung?

Seems like both electronics giants want to keep their symbiotic relationship alive after all…

Rumor. According to Korea Times, Samsung — despite the ongoing legal battle with Apple, will remain to be the Cupertino-based company’s  major supplier of quad-core mobile A6 chips for use in their upcoming iOS devices including the fabled iPhone 5, which is said to be the last project of the late Steve Jobs.
It’s safe to say that the rumors spreading all over the internet stating that Apple has agreed to sign a contract deal with TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Co., Ltd.) for production of A6 chips, should be put to rest.
“Apple has been in talks with Samsung over shipment of its A6 quad-core mobile processor (AP) chips to be used in the next iPhone. It appears that Apple clearly has concluded that Samsung remains a critical business partner,” as stated by an Apple parts supplier executive based in Korea, “Samsung Electronics will apply its advanced 28-nanometer processing technology to produce qualified A6 mobile APs. TSMC will provide customized chips with designs from Apple, however, the volume will be very small,” he added.
Based on numerous reports, if Apple were to choose rival suppliers, the new chips that are to be implemented on their next-gen iOS devices will likely suffer from slight difference in reliability, performance, and other factors — including increased production costs. It’s pretty obvious that Apple’s doing this to make Samsung be aware of the fact that Apple has alternative suppliers, ready to lend their hands anytime.
However, it’s pretty clear that one of the main reasons behind Apple’s decision of choosing back Samsung over TSMC is that the manufacturing process at the Taiwan-based company is said to have not “yet been stabilized” and that “Samsung offers better pricing and capacity commitment for the A6 mobile AP.” as stated by Nho Geun-chang, Analyst at HMC Investment Securities.
Samsung is Apple’s primary supplier of their custom-designed mobile AP chips (A4 and A5 SoCs) that are implemented on the current iPod touches, iPads, and iPhones.
For starters, the A6 processor could be the SoC that the next iPhone will use, or the so-called iPhone 5, and Apple’s new tablet, the iPad 3. Rumors say Apple will start the iPad 3 production this year, and the device should arrive in March or April next year. The iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 are using the A5 chip, the dual-core processor.
Samsung Electronics is one of the biggest rivals of Apple in the smartphone market. In fact, Samsung’s Galaxy S II or S2 is possibly the biggest selling high-end Android smartphone to date. Samsung is also the company behind the upcoming Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime) that will include Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

Nexus Prime, Galaxy Nexus, Android Ice Cream Sandwich: A roundup

Possibly the last rumors roundup before the Nexus Prime (or Galaxy Nexus) launch on October 18
Nexus Prime, or Galaxy Nexus if you prefer, will hit the stage on October 19th, Wednesday in Hong Kong or October 18 for New York City. Aside from the much-anticipated new smartphone, the Android community is also set to welcome the new operating system update, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

For starters, the next version of Android that will arrive this year is possible the biggest so far. Reports say the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which is the OS pre-installed in the 2011 Nexus device, is the combination of Honeycomb and Gingerbread. Honeycomb is the operating system version used by tablets like the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, while the Gingerbread OS build is the latest Android operating system version used by high-end smartphones like the Motorola Droid Bionic and Samsung Galaxy S II.
New rumors are surfacing online about the Android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). One of the most notable is the report posted by Engadget quoting the leak provided by Android Police. The sites are claiming that the Android ICS will include a built-in photo editing app with editing tools like crop, sharpen, flip, rotate, straighten, redeye reduction and possibly 19 filters — or the effects similar to the iOS exclusive application Instagram.
Previous versions of Android do not include a good native photo editing app, and phone manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola Mobility, etc, have implemented their own photo editing app included in OEMs’ own custom user interface. Having a unified photo editing application, if the new rumor is true, is obviously a big step towards a fragmentation-free ecosystem.
Now let’s talk about the rumored new Nexus device, the so-called Nexus Prime or Galaxy Nexus. According to the rumor mill, the Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus is powered by a dual-core Texas Instruments processor, could be the same processor used by the Verizon Droid Bionic, but some reports are speculating that the TI SoC inside the new Nexus has a faster clock speed of 1.2GHz.
The mill also added that the Prime or Galaxy Nexus may include 1GB of RAM similar to the Galaxy S II, 5-megapixel optimized primary camera that can shoot up to 1080p, a front-facing non-VGA camera, and curved display similar to the 2010 Nexus phone, the Samsung Google Nexus S.
Other rumored features are Near Field Communication (NFC), related to the credit card-centric Google Wallet application, Long Term Evolution technology that will allow faster data uploads and downloads, and GSM versions compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T aside from the rumored launching partner Verizon Wireless that uses CDMA/LTE.
Google recently teased the public with the first official Android Ice Cream Sandwich statue, signifying the upcoming arrival of the much-anticipated (and much-needed) operating system update. According to IT Pro Portal, the ICS statue was placed outside Google’s Building 44 joining other statues like Honeycomb (Android 3.0), Gingerbread (for Android 2.3), FroYo (for 2.2), Eclair (for 2.1) and the cute donut

“Droid Razr” by Motorola revealed [Spoiler]

Motorola Mobility launches new website to tease the public more. One image shows the rumored Motorola Droid Razr will feature a kevlar back cover.

Yet another teasing from Motorola Mobility to remind the public that a new RAZR phone will arrive in stores this year, the rumored Motorola Droid Razr. I should note that unlike the older RAZR phones once owned by either your mom or dad, the new Moto phone will include the popular Android operating system. Apparently, Motorola will use the RAZR brand again to attract more customers.
The new website (a subdomain) of Motorola shows off photos (or clues) on what to expect from the October 18th big reveal. Motorola is claiming that the rumored Droid Razr is “thinner, faster, smarter and stronger.”
Thinner is obviously a bold statement coming from a phone manufacturer that offers “thicker phones” like the Droid Bionic and the the Droid X2, the millimeters to beat as of today is 8.8mm by the Samsung Galaxy S II. Faster is quite obvious, because the phone is a Verizon Wireless-exclusive carrier, and the inclusion of the Long Term Evolution or LTE is highly possible. For starters, the LTE technology, according to many tests, is faster than the conventional 3G connection.
Another clue given by Moto is stronger, could be related to the kevlar casing. According to Wikipedia, Kevlar is also called “Poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide” invented in 1964. Kevlar is used by bullet proof vests, just in case you wonder.
The last clue, and most probably the most intriguing is “smarter.” Apparently, the phone will be announced after the unveiling of the rumored Nexus Prime or Galaxy Nexus, the 2011 device that will include the latest version of the Android operating system, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Is it possible that the Droid Razr will include ICS? If not, can Motorola call the Droid Razr a smarter phone if it will use Gingerbread?

iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy S2 is real

New report reveals Samsung’s business strategy against Apple’s iPhone 4S.

Sydney Morning Herald revealed in a report that Apple and Samsung’s rivalry in Australia is heating up, especially in Sydney where a temporary Samsung store appeared ahead of the iPhone 4S launch, surprisingly, the store was built just a block away from the city’s Apple store.
According to the report, Samsung Electronics Australia is offering a super-subsidized Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 for $2 with contract agreement, but here’s the deal, only ten lucky customers are getting the $2 Galaxy S2 each day. The deal is arguably attractive, and it successfully created a long line filled with customers that have their own chairs. The scene, obviously, is like an Apple product launch.

Samsung and Apple are not just rivals in the smartphone arena, but also in courtrooms. Apple is accusing the South Korea-based company of slavishly copying the company’s iProducts. In fact, Samsung and Apple’s Australia-based case regarding the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1′s so-called similarities is not yet over.
iPhone 4S was first announced on October 4th in California, and Australia is one of the few markets that will get the product first, followed by more countries next month. iPhone 4S resembles the older iPhone 4 when it comes to design, but inside, Apple has upgraded the processor to A5 dual-core processor, and the camera now with 8-megapixel sensor.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the most popular Android smartphones available, and according to Samsung, the SII is their most popular to date based on month-to-month sales. The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is powered by Samsung engineered Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Android Gingerbread with optimized Samsung TouchWiz user interface skin, 8-megapixel primary camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and thickness of just 8.5mm.
Aside from the Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung is also expected to release a new smartphone next month sporting the Google Nexus brand, the Samsung Google Nexus Prime or Galaxy Nexus. According to rumors, the new Samsung phone is quite similar to the Galaxy S II, but with a new processor, a TI OMAP dual-core, and an optimized 5-megapixel camera. The 2011 Nexus device is also the phone that will launch the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
For starters, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich is the newest operating system upgrade design to work on both smartphone and tablet. According to reports, the next Android operating system will be much faster, improved battery management, intuitive and more flexible.
Apparently, Apple also released a new operating system on Wednesday, the iOS 5. The new Apple mobile operating system sports better notification, Twitter integration, camera button support, AirPlay monitor mirroring, PC Free feature that will allow the phone to be activated without a PC or Mac, and the new iCloud support. The iOS 5 also includes a new application called iMessage, the instant messaging application slightly similar to BlackBerry Messenger.

iPhone 5, Siri, Google Wallet and credit cards

Apple has sold 1 million iPhone 4S in 24 hours, Siri has made the voice command feature more popular — is NFC and credit card payment system next?

Apparently, Apple’s new smartphone, the iPhone 4S, is a popular device based on long lines seen outside Apple and third-party stores, and the number of customers who pre-ordered the phone on day one. According to Apple, the iPhone 4S was pre-ordered by not less than 1 million customers in less than 24 hours, making the device their most successful iPhone to date.
The reason? Well, one of the possible attractive new features (aside from the 8-megapixel camera) of the iPhone 4S that drove sales — is the Siri application, the virtual assistant exclusive for the new iPhone. Siri is the voice-controlled personal assistant for the iPhone 4S that can answer typical to strange questions like “what’s the weather,” or “what’s the square root of 25″ and more.
Siri is, obviously, a popular feature. In fact, some users have complained that the voice command feature was not working due to network congestion. For starters, Siri requires a network connection to function and respond properly.
One YouTube user said in a video, “It seems that there is a problem with Siri,” with some users adding that Siri was displaying “having problems connecting to network.” The problem is fixed now, but the problem clearly shows that many iPhone 4S users are using the service.

If Siri is popular, and Apple has made the voice command feature more popular in US, can the computer company also make the mobile payment system more attractive? Apparently, Google is already offering the Google Wallet, the powerful new mobile payment system which uses NFC or Near Field Communication for every wireless payment transaction. Google Wallet can save Citi Mastercard or other credit cards via the company’s prepaid card service.
Apple’s possible 2012 smartphone, the iPhone 5, may (or may still not) include NFC or Near Field Communication, one of the ingredients of mobile payment system. According to the latest rumor about the iPhone 5, the device will land on stage next summer, and the device will include new features like complete outer redesign, new processor, LTE  and the NFC. These rumors must be taken with a grain of salt, but NFC on an iPhone is a little to highly possible, especially if Apple will follow the mobile technology trend.
However, an article posted by PC World last January claimed that Apple’s mobile payment will fail. Some of the reasons, according to writer Tom Spring, are lack of dedicated Apple customer support, no room for another machine in a retail store (that will access the NFC of a smartphone) and Apple’s success may lead to ugly credit card rivalry, and “credit card players play hardball” against Apple.
A new store posted by USA Today on Sunday said that there are concerns regarding the mobile payment system like hacking, compromised information and so much more. But the so-called concerns mentioned, obviously, are actually the same concerns if you own a plastic credit card. Google Wallet is a very promising service, in fact, paying a cab by tapping your Nexus S 4G (Sprint) and entering your password in the smartphone is easier.
Can Apple’s next smartphone, possibly the iPhone 5 with NFC, make the NFC credit card payment system more popular especially in US? Or the NFC wireless credit card payment feature is not needed yet?

With any new release of an Apple operating system, there are a legion of fanboys sniffing around the code, trying to suss out any new devices being referred to. The latest version of iOS is no exception.

This time, iOS 5 seems to suggest that a new version of Apple TV could be arriving soon. According to 9to5Mac, a line of code refers to “Apple TV 3,1″ in the file system. The site then speculates as to what a new Apple TV could bring — most importantly, the new A5 chip that powers the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, and, with that, the ability to stream 1080p HD videos at long last.

Such a move gibes with the other rumor floating around that Apple is working on adding movie streaming to its new iCloud service. The latest iOS 5 upgrade also gives Apple TV the ability to mirror content from another iOS device via AirPlay (particularly useful for game playing) and access to the new Photo Stream feature that syncs digital photos across iOS devices.

New Apple TV or not, the latest black box with the rounded corners is turning out to be more than just a “hobby,” as the company once led us to believe it was.
