Nokia Lumia 800 vs Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus in UK

Nokia’s new phone will arrive one day ahead of the Galaxy Nexus in United Kingdom, first showdown crucial for Nokia.
Nokia will face a popular rival in United Kingdom next month, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus.

Apparently, the Finland-based company is set to compete against Android and iPhone by using Microsoft’s reshaped mobile platform, the Windows Phone. The Nokia Lumia 800, the company’s first high-end Windows Phone, is scheduled to hit the UK on November 16, just a day ahead of the much-anticipated launch of the new Samsung phone bundled with the new Android operating system build — the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus.
According to TechRadar, the Nokia Lumia 800 will sport the tag price of £449.95 or US$725 after conversion, off-contract and SIM free, while the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, according to reports, will use the £525 to £549 price tags or not more than US$800 off-contract and SIM free. Rumors say Galaxy Nexus is priced $299.99 on contract in USA via Verizon Wireless, and no word yet on Nokia Lumia 800′s US launch and pricing.
Nokia Lumia 800 is using Windows Phone Mango 7.5 operating system, the latest and greatest version of Microsoft’ mobile operating system which supports multitasking, faster web browser, improved gaming experience and video chat application support. However, the Lumia 800 doesn’t include a front-facing camera, which is one of the phone’s disadvantages knowing that front-facing camera is already a standard feature of Android and Apple’s iPhone.
According to the New York Times, Nokia’s new smartphone is a “crucial test” for the company, and also for Microsoft. Nokia’s first goal is to attract customers in Western Europe, its market bailiwick, and followed by other markets including United States, the land of Android and iPhones based on market share.
But it looks like Samsung is ready to stop Nokia’s “last chance” by confirming the release date of the Galaxy Nexus in UK. Samsung’s not-so-secret weapon is Android, and the Galaxy Nexus is just one of Samsung’s products that will compete against Nokia’s, plus the upcoming products of Android manufacturers like HTC and Motorola, also releasing new smartphones like HTC’s Beats Audio smartphones, and Motorola’s new Razr phone that will also arrive next month.
Aside from the “high-end” smartphones, Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, others are also selling “mid-range” and budget friendly Android devices with touch-only, touch and type features — which is the target market of Nokia’s Asha-branded touch and type devices.
Is there a room for Nokia in the smartphone market? Plus, can the Lumia 800 with Microsoft’s Windows Phone outperform the a phone sporting a Google logo and with the most advanced Android version yet?

LG Revolution 4G Gingerbread 2.3 update now available

Verizon Wireless issues operating system upgrade for the LG Revolution 4G.

At last?
LG Revolution 4G, the Korean company’s first LTE or Long Term Evolution Android smartphone running on Verizon’s 4G network, finally receives its Gingerbread 2.3 update that will give users a set of new features including the much-needed battery management system.

For LG Revolution 4G, you must activate the LTE first for faster data download. After opting in to LTE, go to Settings -> About phone -> System updates -> Check New. Follow the instructions given by Verizon, and after the boot, your phone will be equipped with Gingerbread or 2.3 Android operating system version. For starters, the process is called wireless over the air or OTA update.
Some of the features include all the services supported by Gingerbread, including the Google+ Hangouts for mobile, battery management system, better video chat application support, etc.
The Gingerbread operating system is currently the latest version of Android for smartphones, but the popular platform is expected to roll out the more advanced operating system next month, the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. Apparently, no word yet about ICS for LG Revolution, but the OS version will arrive via Verizon Wireless with the new Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus.
LG Revolution is powered by 1GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon CPU, 512MB of RAM, FroYo 2.2 (out of the box), 16GB of on-board storage with free 16GB MicroSD card pre-installed, 5MP primary camera, VGA front-facing camera and 4.3-inch TFT LCD full color touchscreen with 480 x 800 resolution and 217 ppi pixel density.

iPhone 4S (or iPhone 5) with LTE next year?

A new rumor is claiming that Apple is preparing to launch an LTE-flavored iPhone 4S bound for Verizon and Sprint.
A new rumor, first posted by Taiwan-based website DigiTimes, is claiming that Apple might introduce a new version of the iPhone 4S packed with the LTE technology, or for starters, the Long Term Evolution data wireless technology capable of delivering faster internet speed, but also consumes more battery than the conventional 3G.

The report is suggesting that the device may land in United States early next year, and the source of the rumor are “industry sources.”
According to Digitimes, Apple and other smartphone manufacturers like Nokia, Research in Motion and Sony Ericsson are scheduled to join the LTE line up next year, while telecom providers all over the globe including United States, are also launching Long Term Evolution.
In United States, Verizon Wireless is already offering LTE, while AT&T is already testing its own in at least 5 key areas. Sprint Nextel is also expected to shift from WiMax to LTE until 2013. Verizon, AT&T and Sprint this year are the carriers that offer the iPhone.
The report doesn’t include information about the iPhone that will include the Long Term Evolution, but it is highly possible, only if the rumor is true, that it will be the iPhone 5 — the long rumored Apple smartphone that will feature new design and large screen.
This year’s iPhone, the iPhone 4S, looks exactly like the original iPhone 4 with 3.5-inch Retina screen, but was upgraded from single-core CPU to dual-core A5 CPU and the its primary camera, now an 8-megapixel that supports up to 1080p video recording @30fps.
It is worth noting that DigiTimes also predicted that this year’s iPhone will be a “slight upgrade” (the iPhone 4S) and will feature the same design, so its sources is quite believable – however, I suggest that we take this new rumor with a grain of salt.

Google Music on Android Market: First hint surfaces

Google’s plan to compete against Apple’s iTunes surfaces, Google Music on Android Market coming soon.
New reports have surfaced, revealing Google’s plan to compete in the music business by selling mp3 songs via Android’s popular application marketplace. The reports are based on Google’s Music Beta website after it was accessed using the Android smartphone’s native web browser.

The “Music.Google.Com” website reportedly gave two options for Google Music users, one for uploading files to Google’s cloud, and the option “B” is for shopping “millions of songs” in the Android Market. The option “B” has been removed, but the screen capture with the clause was posted by multiple web news sites like Techcrunch and Engadget.
It is worth noting that a New York Times article posted this month has confirmed that the search engine giant already met with several music labels to expand its music service by retailing songs.
Google’s open operating system, Android, is currently the most popular smartphone platform in United States with more than 40% market share according to latest statistics, beating Apple’s iOS and other platforms like Microsoft’s Windows Phone and RIM’s BlackBerry.
If true, then Google’s Music Store will be native across all Android devices used within United States and some countries.  Google’s rivals, Apple and Microsoft, are already selling song files, giving the companies additional revenue.
Other companies competing in the mobile music sales are Spotify, the monthly billed service that gives the user access to a wide collection of songs stored in the cloud, and Amazon’s own mp3 store. The retail giant is expected to welcome new customers next month courtesy of the company’s highly subsidized Android-based tablet, the Kindle Fire that will debut on November 16.
Google’s Android Market requires credit card, so if the music store will push through, then buying songs on the Android Market will be using the same credit card used by the Android smartphone or tablet.

BlackBerry P’9981: A very expensive Porsche-designed phone

If you think that the Bold 9900 is a bit overpriced, wait til’ you see the P’9981′s price tag.
Meet the Blackberry P’9981, Porsche Design Group’s first try on taking their luxurious designing prowess on a smartphone.

The shiny phone features a sleek, forged stainless steel frame, and unsurprisingly, the phone’s back cover is wrapped in genuine leather typical of designs from PDG. Also, the phone’s QWERTY keyboard is drastically different from any other Blackberry phones that we have seen, the sculpted design of the keys still have a hint of ‘Blackberryness’ in them but the indentations are more edgy, masculine to be exact.
Finally, the P’9981 isn’t complete without its Crystal Clear Touch display that features a 24-bit high-resolution panel which, in our opinion, is pretty much the same with that of the Bold 9900′s. Actually, the P’9981 seems more like a glorified Bold 9900–just on the outside.
The P’9981 is also said to sport a custom-designed Porsche Design UI and a fancy Wikitude World Browser that takes advantage of the devices augmented reality capabilities. Also, RIM was kind enough to spare a bit of effort to give the P’9981 owners an extra sense of exclusivity by giving each device its own special Blackberry PIN that’ll enable P’9981 users to distinguish another P’9981 user. (Handy if you want to let the world know that you own a P’9981 without being ‘too obvious’ don’t you think?)
It’s worth noting that the Sony-Ericsson-looking Blackberry phone is priced at a staggering $2,000. Most of your hard-earned cash is probably spent on the device’s exterior design and materials (other than bearing the Porsche Design name) since the phone’s hardware leaves much to be desired. The internals, as I’ve already mentioned, seem to have been mirrored off of RIM’s flagship Bold 9900 smartphone. It features a single core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, HD video recording, Blackberry OS 7 with custom Porsche Design UI, 8GB worth of on-board memory (expandable up to 40GB via the microSD card slot), WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communications).
According to RIM’s press release, the Blackberry P’9981 will be available from the Porsche Design stores later this year.

iPhone 4S (or iPhone 5) with Siri will control TV?

iPhone 4S, or maybe, Apple’s next smartphone may be the next big TV remote replacement courtesy of Siri.

New York Times has posted a very intriguing new article on Thursday talking about the iPhone 4S, voice command app Siri and Apple TV — not the set-top box, but a conventional TV with Apple logo.
The sources of Apple TV plan, according to the report, are some of the company’s employees and people knowledgable about the rumored product who spoke to the newspaper on the condition of anonymity.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s late former Chief, thinks that the “TV industry is broken,” and just like Apple’s iPod (that reinvented the music business) and iPad (the first successful tablet PC) and the iPhone (that reshaped the phone business), Apple is reportedly busy preparing a TV that will compete against the market’s leaders like Sony, Samsung, Sharp, LG, and more.
The report claims Apple will use Siri as the catalyst of the rumored TV set. Siri is the voice command application exclusively offered by the new iPhone 4S. Apple’s next possible smartphone, the iPhone 5, may also include Siri.
Siri, according to the publication’s sources, will allow users to control the Apple TV set like changing channels, saving programs or just switch between TV channels by using simple natural voice. If true, then Apple should also add “change contrast,” and “switch on/off.”
“I’ve finally cracked it!” said Jobs according to the report, taken from Walter Isaacton’s Steve Jobs biography book.
The “cracked” quote from Jobs is related to Apple’s successful Siri implementation says the paper — so if the rumor is true, then the remote control of the rumored Apple TV is the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5, or the next iPhone that will also include the Siri feature.
NY Times is claiming that Apple started its TV development in 2007 with the Apple TV set-top box, and is now “close enough” to hit the stage by 2012, and the TV set may hit stores in 2013.

Galaxy Nexus vs iPhone 4S vs Droid Razr rivalry next month?

Three-way rivalry possibly happening next month.

Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus vs iPhone 4S and Motorola Droid Razr in November?
Multiple websites have confirmed that the new Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus will hit UK stores next month. According to SlashGear, the new Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus is on sale now via the third-party retailer Phones4U in United Kingdom, and will start arriving to consumers next month, November 16.

Apparently, the UK date could be a week after the rumored launch date of the device in the USA. Rumors say the new Google Galaxy Nexus is poised to hit Verizon’s smartphone lineup on November 10 sporting the tag price of $299 on 2-year contract agreement.
I should note that the date is not confirmed yet, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Meanwhile, Motorola is also expected to seriously compete in the smartphone market with the new Motorola Droid Razr, or just Motorola Razr outside of United States (because Verizon is the exclusive “user” of the Droid in United States). The Motorola Droid Razr, according to rumors, will hit the shelves or online on October 27th.
Can the two new Android smartphones compete against Apple’s “most popular” smartphone yet, the iPhone 4S? According to multiple data, including the sales figure published by Apple’s PR, the iPhone 4S is an instant bestseller with millions of handsets sold in less than two weeks. According to Apple, it had sold more than 4 million iPhone 4S devices in just three days after its launch on October 14th in United States and selected countries. You can watch PopHerald’s iPhone 4S review here.
The Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus and the Motorola Droid Razr are “strong contenders” because both smartphones are expected to offer the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus will enjoy months of Android 4.0 exclusivity, while the Droid Razr is expected to bite off the Ice Cream Sandwich early next year, Motorola has confirmed.
The Android Ice Cream Sandwich or the operating system’s version 4.0, offers new features like Face Unlock, more polished user interface including the redesigned contacts app or “People app,” virtual buttons, better widgets, and built-in photos and videos editing tools.
The Android Ice Cream Sandwich is the operating system’s bet against Apple’s new iOS 5, the operating system used by the iPhone 4S and other compatible devices like the iPad, the iPad 2, the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch. According to Apple’s estimate, the iOS is now used by 25 million Apple customers. The iOS 5 offers better notification, iMessage instant messaging service, dedicated camera button support and on-lock screen camera access, iCloud sync and PC Free service for the PC-less activation of devices.

Nokia Lumia 800 price, release date revealed

Nokia’s first high-end Windows Phone revealed, price and “release date/s” were also mentioned.
The Lumia 800, one of Nokia’s new devices powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 operating system, was announced today in London. For starters, the Nokia Lumia 800 was the “Sea Ray” smartphone unveiled by Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop in June 2011.

The new Nokia smartphone is now available for pre-order in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK, and will officially arrive on November 16th, while Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan are expected to welcome the Lumia 800 later this year. The Nokia Lumia 800 will sport the tag price of approximately €420, excluding other charges like tax, shipping, etc.
Based on current currency conversion, the Nokia Lumia 800 may use the US$600 tag price, excluding other charges.
Sadly, reports have confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 800 will not arrive in United States until 2012, so Apple’s iPhones and Android smartphones are free to carnage other operating system market share, including Microsoft’s this coming Holiday season.
It is worth noting that “analysts” have claimed that Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system is expected to grab the third spot in the smartphone operating system market share, while Apple and Google will enjoy the first two spots.
The Nokia Lumia 800, according to Nokia, is the “first real Windows Phone” device, because it is the first phone designed entirely around Microsoft’s new operating system for full touch smartphones.
The Lumia 800 sports 3.7-inch ClearBlack (AMOLED) screen with resolution of 480 x 800, and with pixel density of 252 ppi. For comparison, Samsung’s upcoming phone, the Google Galaxy Nexus is equipped with 4.65-inch screen with 316 ppi pixel density, while Apple’s new iPhone 4S features 326 ppi.
The Lumia 800 is powered by 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU clocked at 1.4GHz. The phone can shoot HD videos and photos courtesy of the phone’s 8-megapixel primary camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The Lumia 800 doesn’t include a front-facing camera, so apparently, no Skype or any video calling application support. The Nokia Lumia 800 is available in three colors: black, light blue and pink.
According to Nokia’s press release, the Nokia Lumia 800 will offer 16GB of on-board storage and additional 25GB of free SkyDrive storage for storing photos and music.
Can the new Nokia Lumia compete against Apple’s and Google’s? Aside from Android and iPhone, Nokia is also facing internal “Windows Phone rivals” courtesy of HTC, Samsung and LG. HTC is already selling its new Windows Phone devices, the Titan and the Radar, and Samsung is expected to release the new Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash in United States soon.

Nokia Lumia 800, 710: Specs, price comparison

Nokia’s two new Windows Phone smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710.
Surprisingly, Nokia is offering two Windows Phone devices which features almost the same specs. However, Nokia is claiming that the Nokia Lumia 800 is the “more premium” phone due to its ClearBlack (AMOLED) display, and better non-plasticky build quality.

Comparing the screen, the Nokia Lumia 800 is technically better, a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, or the so-called ClearBlack according to Nokia, compared to Lumia 710′s TFT LCD screen.
For starters, TFT LCD is not actually a bad screen, in fact, it is the common screen used by mid-range and some high-end smartphones offered by Android OEMs like HTC, LG and Motorola.
Both the Lumia 800 and 710 sports 480 x 800 screen resolution with pixel density of 252 ppi. For comparison, the iPhone 4S, Apple’s new smartphone, is offering 326 ppi pixel density on a 3.5-inch screen.
The CPU of the Lumia 800 and 710 are also the same, Qualcomm’s MSM 8255 single-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The Lumia 800 offers better camera, 8-megapixel that supports 720p at 30 frames per second, while the Nokia Lumia 710 features 5-megapixel camera, and also supports 720p video recording at 30 frames per second or fps.
Neither device has the NFC, or the Near Field Communication technology, and both devices feature Bluetooth version 2.1, WiFi b/g/n, GPS, and HSDPA that supports speeds up to 14.4 Mbps, but with quote/unquote: theoretical.
The Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 are pre-installed with Windows Phone Mango or the 7.5 version of Microsoft’s revamped operating system with better multitasking, faster web browser, game apps enhancements, and support for video chat applications, but apparently, both the Lumia 800 and 710 will not offer video chat because neither device has a front-facing camera.
According to Nokia, the Lumia 800 is expected to use the 420 tag price, while the cheaper Lumia 710 is priced approximately 270. Reports say the Lumia 800 and 710 will not arrive in United States this year (carrier subsidized), but third-party resellers online will offer the device, with more expensive tag price.
See the comparison table below.

Nintendo 3DS “prepares for” Playstation PS Vita

…a feature that’s supposed to be included from the very start.

It looks like Nintendo is preparing for an upcoming rival, the PS Vita, obviously. The company launches yet another round of updates for the Nintendo 3DS.
Last year, the tech world was appalled when Nintendo mentioned that the 3DS didn’t feature 3D video recording right out of the box, but they promised that the 3DS will be supporting the highly popular feature in the near future.

Well, looks like the Kyoto-based video game giant has kept its promise. This coming November, Nintendo will be rolling out a system update for the 3DS console that will include the much-awaited 3D video capturing feature which will let users record up to 10 minutes of 3D video clips and enable them to create their own 3D stop-motion animation videos, Nintendo also said that other features will be announced in the future.
Also, 3DS owners will be delighted to know that two [3DS exclusive] games from the Super Mario franchise will soon be released: Super Mario Land 3D (Platform-type) and Mario Kart 7, the games will be made available on November 13 and December 4.
It’s worth noting that Nintendo will be offering and anniversary edition of the The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords which will be available between this 28th of September until the 20th of February next year. Ninteno DSi and DSi XL users can download the free game via Nintendo DSiWare, the Nintendo eShop on the other hand, is there to serve the needs of 3DS owners.
“The 2011 holiday season offers up multiple must-have Nintendo games for both experienced players and newcomers,” stated by Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, Nintendo America. “Shoppers know they can count on Nintendo to offer amazing entertainment experiences at an unbeatable value.” which is kinda’ true don’t you think?
Nintendo will start rolling out the 3DS system update by the end of November.

iPhone-less carrier T-Mobile will offer a new Windows Phone device next month.

HTC Radar, the new Windows Phone device from HTC, will land in US courtesy of T-Mobile on November 2, the wireless carrier has confirmed in a Facebook post.
The new HTC Radar, with the white flavor, will sport the tag price of $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with 2-year contract agreement. It is also worth noting that T-Mobile rebrands the HTC Radar, to include the “4G” tag courtesy of the carrier’s HSPA+ network.
The HTC Radar comes with Windows Phone Mango operating system out of the box, and the phone is powered by 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. The phone is sporting a conventional 3.7-inch display with 480 x 800 resolution. The phone can also shoot HD photos and videos courtesy of the phone’s 5-megapixel camera primary camera, alongside the front-facing VGA camera for video chat applications. According to HTC’s press release, the HTC Radar 4G is equipped with 512MB of RAM.

Post Twitter, Facebook & Google+ Status Updates with iStatus+

Post Twitter, Facebook & Google+ Status Updates with iStatus+

It's pretty easy to find Twitter and Facebook integration just about everywhere. iOS 5 even has Twitter integration built-in and I don't think there's a social media friendly App out there that can't post to both of these main stream social networks. However, there's a fairly big new kid on the block called Google+. Google+ started out as kind of a private/public beta. You could only get in if someone that was already in invited you. Now it's open to the public and its numbers are rising. I have almost as many Google+ followers (over 13,000) as I have Twitter followers and that's pretty impressive since the site has only been open to the public for a short time. With so many people now on Google+ I want to be able to post status updates to all 3 networks. Sadly there are very few options for going straight to Google+

iStatus+ does all three
There is an App that can post status updates to all three social networks at the same time. iStatus+ has a simple interface that allows you to log in to all three networks (and stay logged in). Once you log in you can pick and choose which of the networks to post to or do all three at once. It has native Google+ support in that it even brings up your Circles to choose from before you post.

This is GREAT, but there is one major thing missing. While it's great to be able to post to all three at the same time, I'd also like to be able to post the same photo to all three at once. iStatus+ currently only does text. There's no photo posting to any of the networks from this App. Granted it would be a little more challenging to post photos to Facebook and Google+ because you'd have to have Album support, but it can't be impossible. The only other thing I'd like to see is the ability to post a status update to a Facebook Page. Currently the App can only post to your Wall.  It would also be great to have a native iPad version.

Other than that it works as advertised and is the first App that I've seen that can do all three networks.

You can get iStatus+ for $0.99 here from the
