Best Buy and RadioShack are set to offer cheaper Android devices
Android is currently the most popular smartphone operating system in United States based on the latest market share data provided by multiple firms. Well it looks like the popular Google platform is also the star of the upcoming Black Friday shopping rush in some retail chains.
According to multiple reports, retail stores Best Buy and RadioShack are expected to offer cheaper than usual Android smartphones, and take note, these devices are considered “high-ends” largely due to CPU, camera and manufacturer.
A Best Buy doorbuster ad is circulating on the internet, revealing the chain’s computers and other electronic products and some of them are running the popular Google operating system. For example, Verizon’s first Long Term Evolution smartphone is poised to sport the tag price of “free” on weekend, while the popular tablet from Asus, the Eee Pad Transformer will hit the cheaper $250 mark on Black Friday.
Meanwhile, RadioShack is also set to offer cheaper Android devices this weekend. According to reports, the Black Friday deal will include the popular Samsung Galaxy S II or S2, the AT&T variant. The device is currently priced at $199, but the leaked document is claiming that Radio Shack will sell the device for $50 (on contract) only this week. Sprint’s first 3D Android smartphone is also included in the list, the HTC Evo 3D. The leaked ad said the retailer will sell the phone for $99 (also on contract).
More Android deals are expected to be unveiled this week as Black Friday and Thanksgiving approaches. Excited Android fans?
It is worth noting though that these Android-based products are running an “older” version/s of Android, the Gingerbread 2.3 and Honeycomb 3.0+ (for the Asus tablet and Samsung tablets too). Apparently, Verizon Wireless is expected to release the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich device this month or early next month, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime according to a new rumor).
With these deals, Android is expected to get more market share that will surely give Microsoft’s Windows Phone the “hard time.” Speaking of Windows Phone, AT&T is joining the Black Friday market by offering penny Windows Phone devices bundled with contract agreement.
Penny phone (Windows Phone) versus fifty bucks or Benjamin phone (Android)?
