The first quad-core Android tablet reportedly arriving in United States next month.
Well it looks like the first quad-core Android tablet is not yet ready to invade the US this month, tips the new listing of retail chain Best Buy.
Best Buy’s Asus Transformer Prime product page appeared online on Black Friday and customers can now pre-order the device. The retail store revealed that the 32GB Transformer Prime is indeed cheaper than its iPad 2 counterpart, only $499.99 which is the minimum advertised price of the 16GB Apple tablet PC variant.
The new Transformer Prime or Transformer 2 is getting a lot of attention due to its processor, which is the world’s first quad-core mobile processor according to Nvidia. The new Tegra 3 consists an ARM Cortex A9 CPU with integrated 12-core GeForce GPU. Another compelling feature of the new Transformer Prime is its ability to ”transform” into a conventional laptop by using a docking station that can be purchased separately.
Aside from the new Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core SoC and the docking station add-on, the new Transformer Prime is sporting a 10.1-inch full color screen, and equipped with two cameras, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, HDMI, card reader, and Android Honeycomb tablet operating system. The Transformer Prime is also upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich, and the update is expected to arrive early next year.
An Nvidia YouTube video posted last week revealed that the new Transformer Prime’s Ice Cream Sandwich is running smoothly. The video also demonstrated how the new Google mobile operating system handles a tablet computer and how a compatible application is taking advantage of the new platform which was designed by Google from the ground up.
