BlackBerry PlayBook on sale until Black Friday?

RIM’s ill-fated tablet on sale in United States too.

Research in Motion, the company behind the “popular” BlackBerry smartphones, has confirmed via its official website that the not-so popular BlackBerry PlayBook is now cheaper sporting the tag price of $199.99 for the 16GB model.
US-based retailers like Best Buy, Office Depot, RadioShack and even Sprint stores are now reportedly offering the cheaper PlayBook. Best Buy’s online store is now selling the cheaper BlackBerry PlayBook. According to the site’s listing, the 16GB and the 32GB models are still available, but the high-end 64GB model is nowhere to be seen.

According to RIM, the promo lasts for a “limited time” but the end date was not specified. It is worth noting that this weekend is Black Friday, so it is highly possible that the PlayBook will on sale until the US shopping weekend to attract more customers. In Canada, the $199.99 PlayBook will run until December 1st.
The BlackBerry PlayBook is the first and only tablet running the QNX-based BlackBerry Tablet operating system. The tablet is powered by 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP dual-core CPU and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Other features are Adobe Flash support, 2 cameras and HDMI out support.
The BlackBerry PlayBook’s price drop is more likely related to the cheaper Kindle Fire, Amazon’s first tablet PC running the custom Google Android operating system, and the continuous growth of Apple’s iPad and other Android tablet PC.
Barnes and Noble’s Nook Tablet is the latest tablet to join the tablet market. The Nook Tablet is also powered by custom Google Android operating system, and also features dual-core CPU and 1GB of RAM.
