Twitter for iPhone Gets Updated with Connect, Discover & Me

The official Twitter App just went to 4.0 with some facelift and speed enhancements. The update specifically targets the iPhone (iPod touch) with no mention of when the iPad will get these changes. In any case the update provides some speed tweaks and new tabs. Now you have a Connect Tab that more closely matches the experience on Twitter.com where you have an Interactions tab and Mentions tab. The Discover tab lets you search as well as it shows you trending stories, suggestions on who to follow and the ability to Find Friends and Browse categories. Lastly the Me tab shows your stats, Direct Messages, Drafts, Lists, Saved Searches and the ability to switch between accounts. A single tap also lets you  view your profile. This seems like a nice update and we'll have to wait and see how they implement these changes on iPad.

Galaxy Nexus release date on December 11 or 15?

Verizon stores started receiving Galaxy Nexus or SCH-I515.
Rumor alert, a new post is claiming that Verizon might release the Galaxy Nexus on the 10th or 15th of December. The new dates appear after the December 9th rumor was dismissed by Droid-Life.
Yes, aside from Best Buy stores, Verizon Wireless stores are already receiving the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Long Term Evolution technology flavor.
According to a report posted by Droid Guy which includes photos of the Galaxy Nexus boxes with SCH-1515 code, Verizon stores have the phone already and they’re might start selling the device on Sunday, December 11. The site wrote, “We heard from one of our most reliable ninjas that we could be looking at a Sunday launch. Now Sunday launches don’t jive with traditional Verizon Wireless launch dates but this particular ninja has never been wrong. Having said that, he felt about 75% on a Sunday launch.”

The Android-centric blog also added that another source is claiming that December 15 release date is also possible, largely due to the fact that Verizon loves Thursday.
Either way, the Verizon Wireless Galaxy Nexus will arrive before the Christmas week.
Yesterday, Android Central reported that selected Radio Shack will offer the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and some stores are already receiving the phone. The report added that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is expected to use the $299.99 retail price on a new plan or an upgrade, or if unactivated or off-contract, a customer reportedly must pay $799.99 for each Verizon Galaxy Nexus smartphone.
Correction: Sunday is on December 11 and not 10.

iPhone 5, iPad 3 related? Siri engineers wanted

Apple now hiring engineers for Siri’s development, iPhone 5 and iPad 3 related? Apple hiring iOS engineers while the internet is collecting iPhone 5 and iPad 3 release date and features rumors.
Cupertino, California-based company Apple is now hiring engineers that will help the company to improve the new popular feature. Apparently, a research recently revealed that iPhone 4S customers love Siri, making it the best feature of the new Apple smartphone, while the dual-core CPU and the 8-megapixel camera took the back seats.
Apple’s job listing says the company is seeking talented people that will join the team behind Siri’s user interface or UI. So obviously, Apple might introduce a new logo or a new layout for Siri ahead of the long-rumored release date of the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3, which is according to rumors, the new tablet PC might arrive in stores by April of next year. Siri on iPad 3? Highly possible based on the success of the novelty feature on the iPhone 4S.
Apple explains that the engineers will help “develop the look and feel of the conversational UI elements while using Siri,” adding that the company is looking for a talented individual that can deliver “object-oriented software design and programming.”
Rumors say the new iPhone will include larger screen, or the mill is suggesting “4 inches” which is 0.5-inch bigger than the current screen size being implemented by Apple. Of course, Apple will change A LOT when it comes to user interface if it will increase the iPhone’s screen, for it to enhance the user experience and to take advantage of the larger screen. The bottom line, Apple might develop a new Siri starting next year which is related to marketing and promotions (like new Siri on the iPad 3 is cooler, or the iPhone 5 features a more advanced Siri, etc).
The iPad 3 is also expected to arrive next year, and Siri running on a tablet might be the next secret weapon of the Cupertino, California-based company to maintain its lead in the tablet market. Apparently, Apple will face serious rivals next year courtesy of Google Android and Microsoft’s new tablet-centric software a.k.a. Windows 8.
Google’s new “lethal weapon,” the Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich is the most intuitive and the best Android version to date according to multiple reviews. Aside from the upcoming Verizon Galaxy Nexus (or Galaxy Nexus in other countries), tablet devices that will arrive next year are also expected to run the new software.
For example, a new Samsung tablet running ICS with a little sprinkle of TouchWiz, or Motorola devices running a pure Android 4.0 operating system. Asus Transformer 2, the new tablet PC from the Taiwan-based company, is also expected to get Android Ice Cream Sandwich that will try to challenge the iPad by using a new CPU, the Tegra 3 of Nvidia.
Siri, like what I already said, is the most popular feature of the new iPhone 4S so it is highly possible that the upcoming Apple products will also tap the new feature to attract more customers. But the question is, can Siri stop Microsoft and Google?
Siri on the iPad 3? Or, a more advanced Siri running on the iPhone 5? Let me know your opinion.

iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S2: The primer?

Galaxy S2, iPhone 4S and Droid Razr: Last month’s top phones. The iPhone 4S is the most popular smartphone in the United States last month, followed by the Galaxy S2 and Droid Razr (Verizon). Due to lack of iPhone, Galaxy S2 topped the most popular list of T-Mobile USA. If the new report is to be believed, the iPhone 4S is the most popular smartphone in United States last month based on the number of handsets sold at Verizon Wireless, Sprint and AT&T. According to the report posted by BGR quoting Canaccord Genuity’s data, the iPhone 4S is the best-selling phone for the month of November replacing the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S2 of Sprint last September, apparently before the launch of the iPhone 4S two months ago.

T-Mobile, the iPhone-less carrier, reportedly hailed the Galaxy S2 as the most popular smartphone last month indicating that the flagship Samsung phone is indeed very popular not only in Europe and Asia, but also here in United States.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is also the second most popular smartphone of AT&T and Sprint in November. Verizon doesn’t offer the Galaxy S2 so the new Motorola Droid Razr took the second spot under the banner of the big red. HTC’s new HD Android phone failed to beat the Droid Razr and took the third spot only.
Apparently, Verizon Wireless skipped the Galaxy S2 because they will offer the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung’s first HD smartphone here in United States powered by the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Rumors say the device will land here in the US by mid-December sporting the premium $299.99. Unlike the Galaxy Nexus variant of other countries including the variant available in United Kingdom, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will include LTE or Long Term Evolution which is technically faster compared to the HSPA+.
Speaking of United Kingdom, the Galaxy S2 is also the country’s most popular smartphone beating the iPhone 4S. However, a report is claiming that the surprise defeat was due to Apple’s lackluster supply resulting to retailers failing to keep up with demand.

iPhone 5 with high-res screen?

Yes, the iPhone 5 rumors will continue until the release date in 2012. Plus, the iPhone 4S shows the “iPhone 5″ power.
Can’t get enough of the long-rumored iPhone 5 because you want a larger screen with more pixels per inch?
Well, here’s the latest rumors surrounding the unannounced Apple product which was the last true project of the late CEO Steve Jobs according to earlier reports.Aside from the Long Term Evolution, quad-core CPU and larger than 3.5-inch screen, the new rumor about the long-rumored iPhone 5 also includes information about the phone’s resolution and the ppi to beat is 326 courtesy of the iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 4S.
According to Macerkopf.de, Apple is now reportedly testing new components for the iPhone 5 and the new under the hoodie power will be able to support the higher-res screen. The report is claiming that engineers are now esting GPU drivers that might achieve higher resolutions of 1280 x 720 and 1440 x 800.

Apparently 720p is the resolution being used by Samsung’s new phone, the Galaxy Nexus and HTC’s new Rezound 4G, but based on Apple’s devices history, it is highly possible that Apple will try its best to offer a better screen, or it may use a 4-inch screen and implement the 720p resolution to meet more pixels per inch.
We’ll know more about the new iPhone 5 next year, obviously, and application developers will surely talk about because they will need to reprogram their applications if Apple will adopt larger screen and higher resolution.
Speaking of rumors, last week’s posts say the iPhone 5 will arrive in stores on October 2012, following the footsteps of the new iPhone 4S which was released on October 14th.
In related news, Apple’s new iPhone 4S is the top smartphone last month according to the latest data provided by Canaccord. The Canaccord Genuity’s data revealed that the iPhone 4S is the best-selling phone for the month of November replacing the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S2 of Sprint last quarter.
The firm added that Apple is expected to sell at least 30.5 million iPhone 4S this month due to strong demand especially in new markets like China, Brazil and Russia. But in United Kingdom, Apple reportedly has failed to become the UK’s best-selling handset during its launching month due to supply issues. Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung, reportedly grabbed the top spot courtesy of the Samsung Galaxy S II.
The bottom line, Apple’s new iPhone 4S shows the “iPhone 5″ power even without the larger screen or new design. But here’s the catch, Android is growing and obviously improving.
Apple’s new iPhone 5 MUST include a larger screen and a new design to avoid losing market share. Oh by the way, have you seen the new Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich?

No iPad 3 in China?

Apple reportedly loses the “iPad” trademark in People’s Republic China, now what? No iPad 3 next year in the said country?
Say it again? Apple losing in the trademark battle? Well, that’s true and multiple reports have confirmed that Apple indeed lost a trademark dispute in China. Now, Apple might create or invent a new name in order to sell its tablet in China.
While the internet world is busy reporting the rumors surrounding the iPad 3, its possible features and the possible release date in March or April, a new development off shore might give the tech company a “little” problem.
According to reports, Apple filed two lawsuits against a China-based company named Proview, which in 2001 registered the “iPad” and IPAD” trademark. After 8 years, Proview’s Taiwan subsidiary sold the iPad trademarks to UK company IP Applications, and the company sold the name to Apple for $55,000 in 2010.

However, the Shenzhen Municipal Intermediate People’s Court in China has reportedly decided to stop Apple’s claims, citing that the transfer of the iPad trademarks was not valid.
According to the verdict, Proview’s Taiwanese subsidiary carried the sale of the trademark and not the home company based in China. China’s Proview now acquired the trademarks again for use in China. Apple was also order to pay costs.
For starters, companies must file trademark or register the name of products to protect it from other companies that might copy the name or use a similar name which may confuse the consumers. The iPad’s case is the same, but it looks like the Chinese company was the first to register the words iPad or IPAD, or like the court said, the transfer was invalid.
Apple’s retail strategy is now focusing on China. In fact, Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook told the public during the iPhone 4S launch that the company is planning to open more stores in China after the successful opening of the first Hong Kong Apple Store.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus: More hands-on before release date.

A hands-on video revealed that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is using Android 4.0.1, reportedly faster than the Galaxy S2.

Yet another product of the demo device in a New York City Samsung store, Booredatwork.com posted a new video hands on of the brand new, and still not available Samsung Galaxy Nexus running on the Verizon Wireless 4G Long Term Evolution network. See the video below this article.
According to the site, the new Galaxy Nexus Verizon is pre-installed with Android 4.0.1 adding that it is noticeably faster compared to the Samsung Galaxy S II (Epic 4G Touch, Sprint variant) running Android Gingerbread with TouchWiz user interface. Apparently, Verizon has decided to skip the Galaxy S2 in favor of the new Galaxy Nexus. The best decision ever?

It is also worth noting that Android 4.0.1 is reportedly not the “final” build that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will use due to the highly publicized volume bug. According to Engadget, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will use Android 4.1 as its pre-installed operating system.
The new hands-on video also confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus is an LTE monster. The speed test shows that downloads peaked at over 14Mbps while upload speeds climbed above 8 to 9Mbps. Yum. I should also mention that the Galaxy Nexus includes a feature that the user can take advantage of to manage network data usage, so it looks like the Android 4.0 plus LTE will mix very well.
Droid Life is also reporting something about the Galaxy Nexus LTE speed on Monday, and the video posted by the Android-centric blog shows that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus can deliver up to 19Mbps down and at least 2Mbps upload. The site also included a picture which confirmed that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is thicker than the HSPA+ variant.
New reports say Verizon Wireless is expected to announce the release date of the Galaxy Nexus this week.

Update: The Galaxy Nexus was connected via WiFi when the speed test app was used.

iPhone 5 a Verizon advantage?

New forecast revealed that Verizon Wireless gained more subscribers due to iPhone 4S popularity, almost half a million only for AT&T.

AT&T’s iPhone 4S is arguably faster compared to the CDMA-centric Verizon iPhone 4S but it looks like the customers don’t care about “4G” just yet.
According to a report posted by CNET, J.P. Morgan is predicting that Verizon will add 1.2 million new postpaid subscribers during the fourth quarter of this year, while AT&T might add at least 450,000 new customers and the newest iPhone carrier Sprint will grab the 250,000+/-. T-Mobile USA, the iPhone 4S-less carrier here in United States, could lose around 400,000 of its current subscribers this quarter due to lack of the so-called “Apple power” inside the smartphone market.

Now here’s the next attraction, if Verizon is expected to get 1.2 million new subscribers due to iPhone 4S and only half for AT&T, then it looks like the iPhone 5 is a Verizon Wireless “asset” and not AT&T, even with or without the LTE because based on latest tally, Verizon’s LTE coverage is bigger compared to AT&T’s. Convincing? We’ll see.
Last week’s rumors surrounding the iPhone 5 indicated that the next Apple smartphone will feature a larger screen and 4G LTE or Long Term Evolution. LTE is not actually new inside the smartphone market, but the iPhone 5 will be the first to include the technology if rumors are to be believed.
J.P. Morgan’s report also added that this quarter, 23 million smartphones are expected to be sold and 11.5 million are expected to be iPhones, while other manufacturers will grab the remaining 11.5 million. Apparently, the Google Android is the most popular operating system in United States right now so it is safe to speculate that more than half of the 11.5 non-iPhones are Android phones.
