Kindle Fire: Amazon’s Cyber Monday Star?

Can Amazon attract more Kindle Fire customers on Cyber Monday without the “price slash”?

Amazon’s first tablet PC, the Amazon Kindle Fire, is still $199 and it looks like Amazon is still not ready to give more discounts.
According to analysts, Amazon is losing at least $3 to $10 per Kindle Fire so it is highly possible that Amazon can’t give more discounts even on Black Friday and the upcoming Cyber Monday. One teardown website claimed that the Kindle Fire costs $209.63 to build, and analysts have predicted that the cheaper price tag is Amazon’s strategy to get more customers with credit cards. Apparently, Amazon will profit from digital content like e-books, mp3 songs and Android apps.
During the Black Friday event, the Kindle Fire is not included in the Black Friday Sale list, and it looks like the new Android-based tablet PC is also not included in the Cyber Monday sale list. Amazon is expected by many as one of the biggest gainers this coming Cyber Monday where online shoppers are expected to scavenge for more bargains on the internet.
Amazon’s current homepage is flooded by Kindles including the Kindle Fire, and according to the company’s latest consumer electronics bestsellers list, the Kindle Fire is still the top item, while the Kindle Touch and Kindle WiFi occupied to second and third spot. Apple’s iPod Touch is also included in the list, as well as GoPro HD Hero and the Canon Powershot for the cameras.
Competitors like Research in Motion and HTC have dropped the prices of their tablet PCs, the BlackBerry PlayBook and the HTC Flyer to compete against Amazon’s new tablet computer. Apple also joined the Black Friday craze with its iPad 2, and the company is also expected to participate on Monday for the Cyber shopping date.
Amazon’s biggest rival, the Nook Tablet, is also getting a lot of attention due to cheaper tag price of $249, plus the tablet’s “more open” features like the MicroSD card slot, bigger storage and bigger memory. Barnes and Noble also included Netflix and Hulu Plus on its tablet’s ecosystem to compete against Amazon’s bigger smartphone/tablet ecosystem which includes freebies on first few months like the Amazon Prime, the free apps on Amazon’s Android app store, and the free magazines courtesy of Condé Nast.
Can Amazon attract more Kindle Fire customers even without a price cut on Cyber Monday? According to a survey conducted before the Black Friday weekend, Apple’s iPad 2 is still the most popular tablet with at least 65 percent of US consumers saying that they want to receive Apple’s new tablet, while 24 percent said they want Kindle.
Maybe, gift receivers want a more expensive tablet.
