iPad 3 vs Asus Transformer 2 Prime next year?

A Quad-core Android tablet versus the rumored iPad 3 with better display and cameras. Can Google Android retail-iate?

Asus Transformer Prime may face a new iPad rival next year, the iPad 3. Can the new Transformer 2 Prime outsell the iPad 3 which is rumored to include a better LCD display?
Google Android is getting a big shift from two platforms into a one giant platform this month and early next year courtesy of the new Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. For the not-so-geeky readers, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich is the sum of the Gingerbread for smartphones and Honeycomb for tablets, so it is quite similar to Apple’s iOS which caters both categories.
Apparently, Apple is still the tablet market leader based on the number of units sold and the growth month-to-month. Apple’s iPad 2 became the biggest-selling tablet after its launch in Q1, and has stopped the growth of Android in the tablet computer market. But here’s the catch, Google Android is expected to retaliate with the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and with the help of new system on a chip technology, the future of Android is now brighter than ever.

The Asus Transformer 2 Prime and the iPad 2. Rumors indicate that the iPad 3 is coming next year, and will compete against Asus and the new Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
One of the biggest rivals of Apple’s iPad is the new Asus Transformer 2 or Transformer Prime, a quad-core CPU-based Android tablet which features an optional docking station that can transform the tablet into a conventional laptop. The device is equipped with the Android Honeycomb operating system, and poised to received the Android 4.0 update early next year. Nvidia already teased the public with a video two weeks ago, and demonstrated the new Android platform running on the quad-core tablet computer.
The Android Ice Cream Sandwich, aside from the combined features of Honeycomb and Gingerbread, is the most beautiful Android upgrade yet featuring a new and more intuitive user interface with new eye-trick transition effects, and new Google apps like Gmail, browser and Google+, and its ability to support both the tablet-centric and for-smartphones applications.
Aside from the Asus tablet, Motorola, Lenovo, Acer and Samsung are also expected to join the Ice Cream Sandwich tablet bandwagon next year, and upcoming devices are expected to compete against a new tablet from Apple, the long-rumored iPad 3.
Rumors say the iPad 3 will debut in Q1 or early Q2 of 2012 with new features like better display, better cameras and new design. Similar to the previous device cycles of the Cupertino, California-based company, the new iPad 3 may also offer new accessories.
Can the Asus Transformer Prime and other Android Ice Cream Sandwich outsell the iPad 3?
Well, the battle of the tablets is not just about hardware, but also a battle of operating systems. Honeycomb is very much different from the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The new unified Google operating system (the smartphone version courtesy of Galaxy Nexus) is currently getting positive reviews from tech sites and blogs citing the improved user interface, better device support and exciting features like the Face Unlock, Android Beam and the new multi-tasking and browser enhancements.
However, the history of Android shows that smartphones and tablets are very different, and the Android smartphones clearly shows more popularity compared to the tablets. Can the new Ice Cream Sandwich change this landscape?
Asus is now accepting pre-orders for the new Asus Transformer Prime, and the company’s older Eee Pad Transformer tablet is now cheaper to attract more customers.
