Nintendo 3DS and Wii enjoy Mario and Zelda popularity

Mario Bros. and Zelda are not dead yet, Angry Birds!

Nintendo said the new Super Mario 3D Land and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword have recorded impressive sales and helped the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii systems to get more customers during the Black Friday sales event.
According to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, the new 3DS Mario game has become the fastest selling Mario game in the company’s history, so it looks like Mario the rest of the gang are still 3D-compatible.
After the new Mario game’s debut in the market on Nov. 11, Nintendo said they’ve sold more than 500,000 units. Meanwhile, the new Zelda game has also created its own remarkable record and also grabbed the fastest selling title after recording a total of 535,000 copies sold. The game was launch last November 20th.
Nintendo’s 3DS and Wii systems have benefited from the strong Mario and Zelda games, and according to Nintendo, the new games have given the Nintendo 3DS an impressive 325% sales increase during the Black Friday weekend compared to the Nintendo 3DS sales during the week of Nov. 6, and the week before the launch of the Super Mario Land 3D. The Wii systems enjoyed a peak of 500,000 units sold during the Black Friday weekend, the company added.
Fils-Aime said the Black Friday sales record/s could help the company to achieve good holiday sales records, he also added that the new Mario game called “Mario Kart 7″ may give the Nintendo 3DS more sales increase. The new Mario Kart will debut on December 4.
Nintendo is facing rivals coming from the smartphone and tablet industries courtesy of Apple and Google’s growing gaming ecosystem, the iOS and the Android. Can Nintendo maintain its Nintendo and Wii rebound?
