Amazon and Apple have decided not to “take advantage” of Cyber Monday, no cheaper Kindle Fire or iPad 2.
Tablet computers are the bestsellers this year according to multiple research and surveys, but it looks like some companies are not into giving them away this Cyber Monday.
Apple has decided not to join the Cyber Monday deals galore, so no cheaper iPad 2 for today that will surely disappoint some consumer electronics buyers. Apparently, Apple has joined the Black Friday deals competition by offering discounted iPad 2 models, including other Apple products like iPod Nano, iPod Touch, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac desktop computer.
The surprise Black Friday deals from Cupertino is obviously a strategy to rival Amazon and its new tablet, the Kindle Fire. For starters, the Kindle Fire is an Android-based tablet with dual-core CPU but no cameras, MicroSD card slot and other features offered by a full-fledged Android tablet, but, it is likely the cheapest high-end Android tablet in the market right now.
Speaking of Kindle Fire, Amazon has also decided not to include the Kindle Fire to its special online shopping deals for the Cyber Monday. It is also worth noting that Amazon’s Kindle Fire is also not included in the list of the Black Friday deals last week so it looks like Amazon is really losing some bucks on every Kindle Fire sold.
According to analysts, Amazon may be losing about $3 to $10 every Kindle Fire, but the strategy is to sell more digital products like e-Books, mp3 songs and Android apps, or more subscription that will require monthly fees.
The Kindle Fire is sporting the tag price of $199, while the cheapest iPad 2 is priced at $499. Some believe that the Kindle Fire could be the biggest rival of Apple’s iPad due to the price and the larger ecosystem being offered by Amazon.
Can the new Kindle Fire outsell the iPad even without the Cyber Monday price slash? By the way, new reports say the Kindle Fire is the biggest selling Kindle model yet, while Apple is reportedly enjoying successful Black Friday iPad sales after offering the deals last week.
