Google is celebrating what would have been Mark Twain’s 176th birthday on Wednesday, November 30th. The Mark Twain Google Doodle is now available in Asia and Europe, and Google’s US website will start displaying the big Doodle starting 12 midnight if I’m not mistaken.
Mark Twain, or Samuel Langhorne Clemens in real life, is the man behind the popular novels “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and the story’s sequel, the “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” so you now know the reason why the Doodle features two young kids. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel about the adventure of Tom, obviously, and Tom’s friends Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn were the minor characters.

According to Tom Sawyer’s Wikipedia page, the name Tom Sawyer may have derived from a Mark Twain’s real-life Tom Sawyer friend whom when he worked as a reporter in San Francisco, California.
Meanwhile, Huckleberry Finn was the sequel and the story is obviously about Huckleberry Finn while Tom Sawyer was the story’s supporting role. Reports say Huckleberry Finn is 12 or 13 years old in the book. Aside from the Huckleberry Finn book, Mark Twain also wrote two shorter novels with Huckleberry Finn as the narrator, the Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective.
Mark Twain or Samuel was born in Missouri on November 30, 1835. His father was a lawyer and judge, while his mother was a typical housewife. Mark Twain was 11 when his father died due to pneumonia, and after his father’s death, he worked as a printer apprentice in 1851. Apparently, Mark Twain’s novelist-life started during that year, and he began working as a typesetter and contributor of articles and humorous sketches for the Hannibal Journal, a newspaper owned by his brother Orion.

Mark Twain married Olivia Langdon in 1870 after falling in love at first sight, yeah, love at first sight after seeing Olivia’s picture. The couple lived in New York where Mark Twain worked as an editor and writer. Twain and Langdon had four children, but the only son name “Langdon” died of diphtheria at 19 months.
Twain and Langdon’s marriage lasted 34 years until Olivia’s death in 1904. After his wife’s death, Mark Twain and his daughters moved to Connecticut. During his 17 years in the state, Mark Twain wrote many of his popular novels including Adventures of Tom Sawyer in 1876 and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in 1885. Surprisingly, the years between the Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn novels: 9 years.
Twain died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910, in Redding, Connecticut, one day after the Halley Comet’s closest approach to Earth.
Aside from the big Doodle, Google is also promoting its social networking site Google+ featuring a blue stripe located at the top of the Doodle. For starters, Google+ was launched in June and became the fastest growing social networking site ever.
