AT&T’s business strategy to get more Galaxy Tab with LTE customers: Free Galaxy S II or Galaxy S II Skyrocket.
AT&T and Korean company Samsung have announced the upcoming availability of the LTE Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, the newest Android tablet that will include the wireless carrier’s latest LTE technology.
According to the company’s press release posted on its official website, customers can purchase the new Galaxy Tab with LTE online or in stores starting on November 20th. The new Android tablet is sporting the tag price of $479.99 with a two-year contract agreement, and yes, it is an expensive device.
However, AT&T is offering a promo/bundle obviously intended to attract more customers. “For a limited time” says AT&T, customers will receive a Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket or a Samsung Galaxy S II for free, but here’s the catch, the “free” smartphone will require a separate voice plus data plan.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is AT&T first LTE Samsung tablet. The device is powered by Android Honeycomb version 3.2 with TouchWiz tablet user interface or the so-called “TouchWiz UX”, Snapdragon 1.5 GHz dual core SoC, 16 GB of on-board storage and supports MicroSD card for additional storage, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, two cameras, and 8.9-inch full color touchscreen with 1280×800 pixel resolution.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S II features 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor, Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 with the custom TouchWiz user interface, a full 1 GB of RAM and 8-megapixel primary camera, while the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is powered by 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel primary camera, front-facing 2-megapixel camera, 16GB internal storage and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 with the same UI tweak.
The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 Skyrocket is one of the first LTE devices of AT&T, while AT&T’s original Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is the US variant similar to the global Samsung Galaxy S II with HSPA+ technology.
