Survey: iPhone 4S, Galaxy S2 top phones in Europe

A new survey finds Europeans love iPhone 4S, Galaxy S2.
Analysts at Exane BNP Paribas surveyed 1,300 consumers in five different countries in Europe this month, and they found out that Apple’s iPhone 4S and Samsung’s Galaxy S2 are the most popular smartphones in the region. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s partner Nokia has failed to attract European customers. According to the survey, only 2.2 percent wanted to get the new Lumia 800 or 710.
It is worth noting though that the Windows Phone operating system is a “newer” operating system, and the two new Nokia Windows Phones don’t offer some features like video chat due to lack of front-facing camera, and the Windows Phone OS doesn’t offer Adobe Flash Player support, while the iPhone 4S is a more popular smartphone largely due to its iOS 5 operating system with a wider range of smartphone applications. Samsung’s Galaxy S2 is also a popular smartphone because it features Android, the most popular operating system based on the current market share.
According to analyst Alexander Peterc, the data show that Nokia’s flagship phones are “far behind the current blockbusters.” The analysts, with the new findings, have slashed the Lumia sales estimates from 2 million to just 800,000.
The Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 are now available in Europe, and new reports have confirmed that the two new Windows Phone devices are poised to arrive next year here in United States. The Nokia Lumia 710 will join the T-Mobile USA lineup next month, sporting the tag price of just $49.99, while the Lumia 800 is rumored to include Long Term Evolution, and expected to join either AT&T and Verizon, or both.
The iPhone 4S is now available via three different carriers in US, while more than five Samsung Galaxy S2 variants are currently available in the country including AT&T’s new S2 Skyrocket with LTE and T-Mobile’s white Galaxy S2.
Can the Windows Phone grab more market share here in the United States with the two new Nokia phones, or Nokia should create newer phones to attract more customers?
