After the surprise price drop, T-Mobile’s new Android smartphone is expensive again.
Arguably related to the launch of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, mobile and wireless competition this weekend intensified after T-Mobile slashed the price of its White Samsung Galaxy S2 from the original $229.99 after a mail-in rebate to just $99.99.
No word yet from T-Mobile if the promo was successful, but it looks like the wireless carrier isn’t into extending it until the Christmas day.
The web-only offer appeared on Saturday, right after the Thursday launch of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus of Verizon Wireless. Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is T-Mobile’s most popular smartphone largely due to lack of iPhone on the company’s smartphone lineup (and the lack of Galaxy Nexus, of course).
The white Samsung Galaxy S2 is similar to the original black version, powered by 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU, 1GB of RAM, features an 8-megapixel back camera, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 upgradeable to Android 4.0 early next year.
