Nokia’s new phone will arrive one day ahead of the Galaxy Nexus in United Kingdom, first showdown crucial for Nokia.
Nokia will face a popular rival in United Kingdom next month, the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus.
Apparently, the Finland-based company is set to compete against Android and iPhone by using Microsoft’s reshaped mobile platform, the Windows Phone. The Nokia Lumia 800, the company’s first high-end Windows Phone, is scheduled to hit the UK on November 16, just a day ahead of the much-anticipated launch of the new Samsung phone bundled with the new Android operating system build — the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus.
According to TechRadar, the Nokia Lumia 800 will sport the tag price of £449.95 or US$725 after conversion, off-contract and SIM free, while the Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, according to reports, will use the £525 to £549 price tags or not more than US$800 off-contract and SIM free. Rumors say Galaxy Nexus is priced $299.99 on contract in USA via Verizon Wireless, and no word yet on Nokia Lumia 800′s US launch and pricing.
Nokia Lumia 800 is using Windows Phone Mango 7.5 operating system, the latest and greatest version of Microsoft’ mobile operating system which supports multitasking, faster web browser, improved gaming experience and video chat application support. However, the Lumia 800 doesn’t include a front-facing camera, which is one of the phone’s disadvantages knowing that front-facing camera is already a standard feature of Android and Apple’s iPhone.
According to the New York Times, Nokia’s new smartphone is a “crucial test” for the company, and also for Microsoft. Nokia’s first goal is to attract customers in Western Europe, its market bailiwick, and followed by other markets including United States, the land of Android and iPhones based on market share.
But it looks like Samsung is ready to stop Nokia’s “last chance” by confirming the release date of the Galaxy Nexus in UK. Samsung’s not-so-secret weapon is Android, and the Galaxy Nexus is just one of Samsung’s products that will compete against Nokia’s, plus the upcoming products of Android manufacturers like HTC and Motorola, also releasing new smartphones like HTC’s Beats Audio smartphones, and Motorola’s new Razr phone that will also arrive next month.
Aside from the “high-end” smartphones, Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, others are also selling “mid-range” and budget friendly Android devices with touch-only, touch and type features — which is the target market of Nokia’s Asha-branded touch and type devices.
Is there a room for Nokia in the smartphone market? Plus, can the Lumia 800 with Microsoft’s Windows Phone outperform the a phone sporting a Google logo and with the most advanced Android version yet?
