Nokia’s two new Windows Phone smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710.
Surprisingly, Nokia is offering two Windows Phone devices which features almost the same specs. However, Nokia is claiming that the Nokia Lumia 800 is the “more premium” phone due to its ClearBlack (AMOLED) display, and better non-plasticky build quality.
Comparing the screen, the Nokia Lumia 800 is technically better, a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, or the so-called ClearBlack according to Nokia, compared to Lumia 710′s TFT LCD screen.
For starters, TFT LCD is not actually a bad screen, in fact, it is the common screen used by mid-range and some high-end smartphones offered by Android OEMs like HTC, LG and Motorola.
Both the Lumia 800 and 710 sports 480 x 800 screen resolution with pixel density of 252 ppi. For comparison, the iPhone 4S, Apple’s new smartphone, is offering 326 ppi pixel density on a 3.5-inch screen.
The CPU of the Lumia 800 and 710 are also the same, Qualcomm’s MSM 8255 single-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The Lumia 800 offers better camera, 8-megapixel that supports 720p at 30 frames per second, while the Nokia Lumia 710 features 5-megapixel camera, and also supports 720p video recording at 30 frames per second or fps.
Neither device has the NFC, or the Near Field Communication technology, and both devices feature Bluetooth version 2.1, WiFi b/g/n, GPS, and HSDPA that supports speeds up to 14.4 Mbps, but with quote/unquote: theoretical.
The Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 are pre-installed with Windows Phone Mango or the 7.5 version of Microsoft’s revamped operating system with better multitasking, faster web browser, game apps enhancements, and support for video chat applications, but apparently, both the Lumia 800 and 710 will not offer video chat because neither device has a front-facing camera.
According to Nokia, the Lumia 800 is expected to use the 420 tag price, while the cheaper Lumia 710 is priced approximately 270. Reports say the Lumia 800 and 710 will not arrive in United States this year (carrier subsidized), but third-party resellers online will offer the device, with more expensive tag price.
