New forecast revealed that Verizon Wireless gained more subscribers due to iPhone 4S popularity, almost half a million only for AT&T.
AT&T’s iPhone 4S is arguably faster compared to the CDMA-centric Verizon iPhone 4S but it looks like the customers don’t care about “4G” just yet.
According to a report posted by CNET, J.P. Morgan is predicting that Verizon will add 1.2 million new postpaid subscribers during the fourth quarter of this year, while AT&T might add at least 450,000 new customers and the newest iPhone carrier Sprint will grab the 250,000+/-. T-Mobile USA, the iPhone 4S-less carrier here in United States, could lose around 400,000 of its current subscribers this quarter due to lack of the so-called “Apple power” inside the smartphone market.
Now here’s the next attraction, if Verizon is expected to get 1.2 million new subscribers due to iPhone 4S and only half for AT&T, then it looks like the iPhone 5 is a Verizon Wireless “asset” and not AT&T, even with or without the LTE because based on latest tally, Verizon’s LTE coverage is bigger compared to AT&T’s. Convincing? We’ll see.
Last week’s rumors surrounding the iPhone 5 indicated that the next Apple smartphone will feature a larger screen and 4G LTE or Long Term Evolution. LTE is not actually new inside the smartphone market, but the iPhone 5 will be the first to include the technology if rumors are to be believed.
J.P. Morgan’s report also added that this quarter, 23 million smartphones are expected to be sold and 11.5 million are expected to be iPhones, while other manufacturers will grab the remaining 11.5 million. Apparently, the Google Android is the most popular operating system in United States right now so it is safe to speculate that more than half of the 11.5 non-iPhones are Android phones.
